Born on 28th March, 1975 in Mumbai, Akshay Khanna is the son of veteran actor Vinod Khanna and the younger brother of bollywood actor Rahul Khanna. Known for his impeccable acting talent and flawless diction, Akshay has worked with the best names in Indian cinema. Akshay Khanna was always interested in cinema and therefore joined Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute in Mumbai to polish his acting skills. Akshay Khanna made his acting debut in 1994 at an age of 19. His first film ‘Himalya Putra’ was produced by his father Vinod Khanna that turned out as a failure at the box office. Akshay was next seen in J.P. Dutta’s war epic ‘Border’ released in 1997. The movie featured an ensemble cast including established actors like Jackie Shroff, Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Tabu etc. Akshay’s originality and composure as a performer was appreciated by the critics. ‘Border’ became huge success and Akshay won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award. Akshay Khanna was next seen in ‘Mohabbat’ alongwith Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Kapoor, the ovie did not fare well at the box office. Akshay Khanna garnered stardom with 1999 release ‘Taal’ opposite Aishwarya Rai. Subhash Ghai’s ‘Taal’ became a critical and commercial success and Akshay became a well known celebrity.

The turning point in Akshay Khanna’s life came when he won his first Filmfare Best supporting Actor award for ‘Dil Chahta Hai’. Farhan Akhtar’s contemporary drama ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was a huge commercial success of 2001. Later Akshay featured in thriller ‘Humraaz’ that got him his first Filmfare nomination for a villainous role. Akshay Khanna plunged into the comedy genre with Priyadarshan’s ‘Hungama’ and ‘Hulchul’ that became box office hits. After acting in a few flops like ‘ Shaadi Se Pehle’ ,’Aap Ki Khatir’, ‘36 China Town’, ‘Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love’, ‘Mere Baap Pehle aap’ and ‘Naqaab’, Akshay appeared in the 2008 release ‘Race’. Abbas Mustan’s thriller ‘Race’ did pretty well at the box office and his performance in a negative role received applauds. Akshay Khanna’s best performance so far was seen in ‘Gandhi, My Father’ as Harilal Gandhi, Mahtma Gandhi’s son. Akshay Khaana’s upcoming movies include ‘Ab Dilli Door Nahin’, ‘Tees Maar Khan’ and ‘Shortcut-2’.
Akshay Khanna has been nominated and won several film awards, the most recent being Star Screen Award Best Villain for ‘Race’, IIFA Best Villain Award for ‘Race’ and Best Performance Award for ‘Gandhi, My Father’ at the Australian Indian Film Festival in 2007.
Akshay Khanna’s favourite director is Priyadarshan and the two have worked together in a few smash hit movies. Akshay Khanna is known for keeping his personal life completely under wraps and prefers to work on just one project at a time. Akshay Khanna always stays away from controversies and is close friends with fellow stars like Anil Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra , Arshad Warsi, Aishwarya Rai, Saif Ali Khan Kareena Kapoor, Aamir Khan, Ayesha Takia, Sanjay Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. After dating actress Tara Sharma for a few years, Akshay is supposedly dating a New York socialite.
