Akshay Kumar known for his exhilarating stunts and a hilarious comic timing is a popular Indian actor. Originally named Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, Akshay Kumar was born on 9th September, 1967 to a Punjabi family in Amritsar. Akshay Kumar spent his childhood in New Delhi and studied at Don Bosco School and Khalsa College. Akshay Kumar learnt martial arts in Bangkok while working as a chef. On returning to Mumbai, he started teaching martial arts and then eventually got into modeling. Though Akshay Kumar made his acting debut with ‘Saughandh’ released in 1991, he was noticed in ‘Khiladi’ – a 1992 released thriller. After the huge success of ‘Khiladi’, Akshay Kumar starred in commercial successes like ‘Main Khiladi Tu Anari’, ‘Mohra’ and Yash Raj Films’ romantic flick ‘Yeh Dillagi’. Other successes like ‘Suhaag’ and ‘Elaan’ along with several Filmfare and Star Screen nominations earned a distinct status for Akshay Kumar. Akshay Kumar established himself as the most popular action hero with the next films of ‘Khiladi’ series namely, ‘Sabse Bada Khiladi’ and ‘Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi’. However his other Khiladi series flicks did not work at the box office. Akshay Kumar appeared in a asupporting role in Yash Chopra’s ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ that earned him a Filmfare nomination for the Best actor in a supporting role.

After gaining vast popularity as an action hero, Akshay Kumar got into the comedy genre with ‘Hera Pheri’ released in 2000. In the same year he featured in romantic hit ‘Dhadkan’ and commercial successes ‘Ajnabee’ and ‘Aankhein’. Akshay Kumar illustrated his brilliant comic timing in ‘Awaara Paagal Deewana’, ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ and ‘Garam Masala’.
In 2009 Akshay featured in Warner Bros’ ‘Chandani Chowk To China’ opposite Deepika Padukone and Nagesh Kukunoor’s ‘8X10 Tasveer’ opposite Ayesha Takia. However both these films became commercial as well as critical failures. Akshay’s other three films of 2009- ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, ‘Blue’ and ‘De Dana Dan’ did average business. Akshay Kumar has successfully hosted the two seasons of reality show ‘Fear Factor- Khatron Ke Khiladi’ telecasted on Colors channel.
Akshay Kumar is happily married to Dimple Kapadia and Rajesh Khanna’s daughter Twinkle Khanna for over 9 years. The couple has a son named Aarav. Akshay and wife Twinkle came into a controversy when Twinkle unbuttoned Akshay’s jeans during the Lakme Fashion week event in April 2009. Akshay Kumar’s forthcoming movies include ‘Housefull’ releasing in April 2010, ‘Action Replay’, ‘Khatta Meetha’, ‘Patiala House’ and ‘Tees Maar Khan’ and ‘Komagata Maru’.
