Collections that depend upon lines in order to draw attention generally achieve this using a highly architectural, contemporary pitch. But this is not the case with the autumn 2011 collection from Amanda Wakeley. Until the London Fashion week, the designers may have come out with a collection that takes everything from the effect lines create in shaping a figure and drawing attention. But, the latest collection from Amanda Wakeley is focused more towards sculpture and less towards architecture.

And, this element of sculptured classiness from Amanda Wakeley is visible throughout. The dress shoulders roll softly into short sleeves with the fabrication firmness showing clearly. Additional fabric flashes the hips, giving out a modern look. The necklines are full of details without decoration, and the cloth is done to fit well giving a sign of neo-futurism. All the pieces seem to fight back against the mostly relaxed cut present in the collection. The pieces have so trim proportions making it seem that they have been done directly on a model’s figure, which is completely contrary to the fact that they were done in hurried backstage.

Among all the sculpting done by Amanda Wakeley, one cut is most prominent. The best way to describe it is to compare it with a tennis dress. The two dresses are cut in white cloth and cut to a tennis dress shape, they offer trim torso. The dress was cut with an undisturbed wave, making it perfect in its shortness and its feature to show not more than the leg, and most important of all was its wafting flow. The fair sex guests at the show were captivated the gowns in the collection. They were decorated in jet blacks, greys and golds. The skill put into the structured pieces was certainly appreciable, but it was the embellished gowns and the pieces that stimulated their imaginations. The Amanda Wakeley collection took to super luxurious power dressing when Amanda Wakeley brought out neck pieces made with goat hair, covered in remarkable cashmere coats along with triple enfolded leather belts, silhouette cocktail dresses done with lots of embellishments, flashes of orange found in the sleeves that burst out of a square cut, collarless camel coat, a funnel necked coat with a fox fur covering at the neck and lots of jet beading in the form of stiff peplums and embellishments on cocktail dresses that can also be found in Giles’s show. The Amanda Wakeley collection received a modern touch with the bound leather waistbands on top of the black skirts, and an orange dress that consisted of a studded drawstring neckline. The midriff embellished heavily with gold became a dash of sequin both on the top and below making it a sexy affair. The murky gold chainmail embellishment created gave a sultrier and less powerful feeling to evening wear.
