A gold medalist in Economics and a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, Ameesha Patel is a popular face in the Indian cinema. Ameesha Patel has performed in several plays and movies in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. Born on 9th June, 1975 to Amit and Asha Patel, Ameesha is the elder sister of Bollywood actor Ashmit Patel. Ameesha’s Grandmother Rajni Patel is an eminent lawyer and politician who was the Congress Pradesh Committee President of Bombay. Ameesha Patel attended the Cathedral and John Connon High School in Bombay and then studied Economics at the Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. After graduating in economics with a gold medal, Ameesha joined Khandwala Securities Limited as an economic analyst. Ameesha turned down an offer from Morgan Stanley to pursue a career in acting. Ameesha joined Satyadev Dubey's theatre group to polish her acting skills and consequently worked in a number of plays including ‘Neelam’, an Urdu play directed by Tanveer Khan.

Ameesha Patel has also appeared in TV commercials for reputed brands like Bajaj Sevashram, Fair & Lovely, Cadburys, Jai Lime, Fem, Lux among others. Ameesha Patel made her bollywood debut in Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Kaho Naa Pyar Hai’. Roshan’s home production ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’ was also the debut film of his son Hrithik Roshan who is among the top actors in bollywood. Released in 2000, the movie became a smash hit and Ameesha received several awards in the Best Female Debut category. Ameesha was next seen in a Telugu film ‘Badri’ written and directed by filmmaker Puri Jagannadh. Also starring Pawan Kalyan and Renu Desai, the movie became a blockbuster hit. Ameesha Patel’s most successful film ‘Gadar- Ek Prem Katha’ based on the post partition events of 1947 was released in 2001. Anil Sharma’s ‘Gadar- Ek Prem Katha’ also featuring Superstar Sunny Deol became the highest grossing film of the year and biggest hit of 21st century in India. Ameesha Patel had to go through a 12 hour audition before getting chosen for the female lead. Ameesha’s performance won her rave reviews and several nominations in the best actress category and a Filmfare Special Performance Award.
 Ameesha appeared in a few flop films , namely ‘Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar’, ‘Kranti’,’Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai’ ‘Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage’ and ‘Yeh Hai Jalwa’ before starring Abbas Mustan’s thriller ‘Humraaz’. Abbas Mustan’s ‘Humraaz’ starring Bobby Deol and Akshay Khanna besides Ameesha Patel was successful at the box office and Ameesha was nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Ameesha’s career has seen a lot of highs and lows with a number of unsuccessful projects that were ripped by the critics. However Ameesha’s performance in ‘Ankahee’ and ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ won appreciation from audiences as well as critics. Ameesha Patel has also been seen in special performances in ‘Heyy Babyy’, ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic’. Her forthcoming films include ‘Run Bhola Run’ and ‘Chatur Singh Two Star’.
Ameesha Patel dated filmmaker Vikram Bhatt for five years before finally breaking up in 2008 and is currently seeing London-based businessman Kanav Puri. Ameesha Patel hit the news with her alleged rift with her family over mismanagement of her accounts and assets. However it is believed that Ameesha and her brother Ashmit patched up on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan in August 2009. Her mother, Asha Patel also confirmed with the Times of India that all issues were finally sorted out and the family was together again.
