Asin Thottumkal, a native of Kerala is an Indian actress who has appeared in block buster hits like ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Dasavathaaram’. Asin is a popular actress in South Indian cinema and has recently ventured in Bollywood. Born on26th October, 1985 to Dr. Seline Thottkamal, a retired civil surgeon and businessman Joseph Thottumkal, Asin is known for her effervescent on screen presence. Asin attended the Naval Public School in Cochin and St. Theresa's Higher Secondary School. She earned her Bachelor’s in English Literature degree from St. Theresa's College. After graduating, she assisted her father with his business and also took up modeling as a part time profession. Asin has appeared in a number of TV commercials including Colgate Maxfresh, Spinz, Tanishq GoldPlus, Big 92.7 FM and Parachute.

Asin made her cinematic debut at an age of fifteen in Malayalam film ‘Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka’. Released in 2001, ‘Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka’ featured Asin in a supporting role. After taking a break for an year to pursue her education, Asin appeared in a leading role in Telugu film ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi opposite Ravi Teja’. For her pioneering performance in ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi’, Asin received the Telugu Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Asin was next seen in another Telugu film ‘Shivamani’ opposite superstar Nagarjuna. Puri Jagannadh’s ‘Shivamani’ became a smash hit and Asin won the prestigious Santosham Best Actress Award. The success of ‘Shivamani’ was followed by two other mega hits ‘Lakshmi Narasimha’ and ‘Gharshana’, both Telugu language films. With four subsequent successes, Asin gained superstardom in the Telugu film industry. Asin made her debut in Tamil film industry in ‘M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi,’ opposite Jayaram Ravi. One of the biggest hits and highest earners of 2004, ‘M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi’ cemented Asin’s position in the South Indian cinema. Asin’s Telugu film ‘Chakram’ and ‘Ullam Ketkumae’ in Tamil became box office hits and earned huge applauds for Asin. Directed by Jeeva, the Tamil film, ‘Ullam Ketkumae’ was delayed for three years before releasing in 2005, however the film became a commercial hit.
 Asin became one of the prominent actors of South Indian cinema and she was seen in a number of smash hits with ace filmmakers and actors including A. R. Murugadoss’s Tamil psychological thriller film Ghajini opposite Surya, Rockline venkatesh’s Tamil film ‘Majaa’ opposite Vikram, Perarasu’s Tamil blockbuster ’Sivakasi’ opposite Joseph Vijay, K.S. Ravikumar’s ‘Varalaru’ opposite Ajith Kumar, Bhimaneni Srinivasa Rao’s Telugu film ‘Annavaram’ opposite Pawan Kalyan, Mohan Natarajan’s ‘Aalwar’ opposite Ajith Kumar, Prabhu Deva’s ‘Pokkiri’ opposite Vijay, Hari’s ‘Vel’ opposite Surya and K. S. Ravikumar’s ‘Dasavathaaram’ opposite Kamal Hassan. Asin received the Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award for ‘Ghajini’ and ITFA Best Actress Award for ‘Dasavathaaram’. She was also nominated for the Vijay Award for Best Actress and Vijay Award for Favorite Heroine for ‘Dasavathaaram’.
The established actress of South Indian film industry, Asin plunged into bollywood with 2008 release ‘Ghajini’. ‘Ghajini’ was the remake of Asin’s Tamil film of the same name. Starring opposite veteran actor Aamir Khan, Asin earned the Best Female Debut Award at the Filmfare, Star Screen and IIFA Awards. She was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Stardust honored Asin with Superstar of Tomorrow Award. ‘Ghajini’ became a huge commercial and critical success and Asin was well received by the critics and film fraternity. Asin has recently appeared in Vipul Shah’s ‘London Dreams’ alongside popular actors Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. The winner of an entrepreneurial award as a teenager, Asin is the brand ambassador for well known brands like Fairever, Mirinda, Clinic All Clear, Tata Sky and Big Bazaar.
