Betty Jackson – Fashion Designer
Betty Jackson is a well known fashion designer. She is a British talented and well known designer living in London, England. She was born on June 24, 1949. Bacup, Lancashire is her place of birth. She was also brought up at Bacup Lancashire. Betty’s father had a shoe making factory. Her mother’s name was Phyllis and she shopped for the season from Manchester. She graduated in fashion on Birmingham College of Art. She studied under Zandra Rhodes. In 2007 she was given tribute with CBE for her life time achievement in fashion.

In 1971during her last year at college, she worked as a fashion illustrator and started her career. In 1970s Betty Jackson traded with fashion line Quorum of Ossie Clark. Betty Jackson is married to a French Israeli-born person, David Cohen. After marriage they both set up a company collectively which they named Betty Jackson Ltd. They both are working with each other from the establishment of the company.
In 1971, during last year of her college, Betty Jackson in a car accident lost her one leg. Later on August 27, 2009 it in a programme “No Triumph, No Tragedy” by BBC Radio it was reported that the leg of Betty Jackson was separated when she was only six years old and her leg stopped growing from that time. Her leg was sensitive since her birth and when she had a car accident her leg was badly hurt and affected. From that time she is walking with the support of a stick.
Betty Jackson designed lot of dresses for many celebrities, actresses and models. In 1990s Betty Jackson designed contemptible dresses and costumes for the comedy serial Absolutely Fabulous. Betty Jackson has two children: a son and a daughter. Her son’s name is Oliver and he is an English actor who acted in Faster and Lark Rise to Candleford. Her daughter, Pascale works with a jewelry designer based in New York, United States. In 1973, Wendy Dagworhy accompanied Betty Jackson as her designing assistant. Before establishment of her own firm, later Betty went for auxiliary positions at Coopers and Quorum. In 1986 she introduced Men collection. In 1991, she opened a new shop in London and displayed her Men collections. Her success journey does not end on this, she also inaugurated the Signature collection for the famous store Marks and Spencer in 2000. Betty Jackson is also a member of a counseling board to the British Fashion Council’s Model Health Inquisition. In 2008 the Lord Chief Justice (Nicholas Phillips) requested Betty Jackson to modernize the gowns of the lawyers and judges etc. She got many awards for her magnificent achievements. In 1981 and 1983 Betty Jackson was awarded as designer of the year by Woman Magazine. She also got best cotton designer of the year award by Cotton Institute in 1983. In 1984 she got Best Dress of the year award by Bath Museum of Costume. She also got the British Designer of the Year award, Harvey Nichols award and Fil d`Or award in 1985. In 1987 Betty Jackson was honored with Viyella and Member of British Empire. Then in 1989 she was awarded with Birmingham Polytechnic and Honorary Fellow, Royal College of Arts. After some years in 1992, she was honored with the Honorary Fellow, University of Central Lancashire. Moreover, Betty Jackson was also awarded with the prestigious Designer of the Year award in 1999. Betty Jackson felt very encouraged and honored whenever she received any of her award. She is a great designer and has designed a number of elegant and gorgeous dresses. Her collection has attracted the customers from all over the world.
