Bhavana is a prominent Malayalam actress with a few Tamil and Telugu films to her credit. She is venturing into Kannada films with Soori’s ‘Jackie’ opposite Puneet Rajkumar. Bhavana is an award winning actress known for her impeccable exuberance and versatility. Bhavana was born as Karthika Menon on 6 June, 1986 to Pushpa Menon and G. Balachandra Menon, an assistant cinematographer. Bhavana hails from the Nair family of Thrissur, Kerala. Her brother, Jayaddev lives in Vancouver, Canada.

Bhavana started her acting career in Malayalam films at an age of sixteen. Her first film was ‘Nammal’ directed by Kamal and starring Siddharth, Jishnu and Renuka Menon in lead roles. The film became a commercial and critical success and won three awards at the Malayalam Movie Awards 2002. Bhavana won Kerala State Film Special Jury Award for Best Actress and the Asianet Award for Best Supporting Actress for her debut film ‘Nammal’.
She next appeared in reasonably successful films in Malayalam including Siddique’s ‘Chronic Bachelor’ alongside Mammootty and Rambha, Jayaraj’s ‘Thilakkam’ alongside Dileep and Kavya Madhavan, Johnny Antony’s CID Moosa opposite Dileep, T. K. Rajeev Kumar’s ‘Ivar’ opposite Jayaram, Kamal’s ‘Swapnakoodu’ alongside Kunchacko Boban, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Jayasurya, and Meera Jasmine.
Bhavana paired opposite Jayasurya in Rafi Mecartin’s ‘Chathikkatha Chanthu’ that was a superhit at the Kerala box office. She also appeared in the Malayalam remake of Hollywood film ‘Tango and Cash’ starring Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell. The Malayalam film was titled ‘Police’ directed by V. K. Prakash and starred Prithviraj, Bhavana, Indrajit and Chaya Singh in lead roles.
In the year 2005, Bhavana appeared in eight Malayalam films of different genres. Her breakthrough performance was seen opposite Prithviraj in the blockbuster film ‘Daivanamathil’ directed by Jayaraj. ‘Daivanamathil’ was based on the controversial incident of Babri Masjid demolition and its after effects on Muslims in Kerala. The film won huge critical acclaim and was honored with Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration. Bhavana gave her best performance in this film portraying the character of Sameera, an educated Muslim girl whose husband becomes a fundamentalist. Bhavana received Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress and Asianet Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Bhavana made her debut in Tamil film industry in the year 2006 in Myshkin’s ‘Chithiram Pesuthadi’. The film starred Narain, Bhavana and Malavika in lead roles. The film initially failed to lure the audiences but eventually turned to be a surprise hit. Bhavana received Filmfare Best Tamil Female Debut Award and Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award for her debut Tamil film.
Bhavana starred as the female lead along with Sriya Reddy opposite Bharath and Pasupathy in the 2006 superhit Tamil film ‘Veyil’ directed by Vasanthabalan. The film won several awards and was screened at the Cannes International Film Festival 2007 - under TOUS LES CINEMAS DU MONDE. It was later screened at Shanghai International Film Festival 2007, Habitat International Film Festival 2007 and Pune International Film Festival 2007. ‘Veyil’ also won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil, Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Film and Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Film, among others.
Bhavana was recently seen in Telugu film ‘Mahatma, Tamil film ‘Aasal’ and Malayalam film ‘Happy Husbands’. She will soon be seen in Kannada film ‘Jackie’, her first Kannada venture.
