Catherine Holstein was born in December 1st, 27 years ago. Her talent was found by her classmate at Parsons which opened a new window of her passion in fashion. Her debut at Barneys New York laid a milestone to her career. It encouraged her to swoop her collections of sporty white linen blouses and showed them to Kimball Hastings, a magazine’s senior editor. She was then arranged to have a meeting with Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte. Instead, the Mulleavys were captured by the outfit she was wearing which also one of her designs. This resulted a new project of selling her collections in Los Angeles stores.
Her inspiration in animated characters accentuated graphic lines on her works, are so catchy and original. It certainly derived the style crowd’s attention. The originality of vibrant and urban girl’s illustration stands out as a distinguished trend in a fashion world.
She received orders from Barneys, as well as other boutiques such as Satine and Des Kohan in Los Angeles and the boutique on Mott Street in New York. Her collection costed at $320 to $400. At first, this did not run smooth, as some factories rejected calls from an unknown designer like herself. Finding difficulties in production facilities, she hired her sister who is a lawyer at the high-profile firm “Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom” to open her links for her business. Catherine Holstein then invited her friends, Victoria and Vanessa Traina (the daughters of a romantic novelist Danielle Steel), to assist her in her projects, as well as an extension of their links. Being friend with celebrities and in the circle of famous people helps to sell out her collections and books her name on the top-listed designer. Nevertheless, this opinion does not serve as a priority agenda in her shows. Her talent in delivering brilliant ideas and cool fusion makes her collections worth-hunting for. Being young girl herself has made Catherine Holstein in liaise with her design enthusiasts. She draws her own trend as her original identity that stands out in crowd. She insists on keeping her collection for her daughter she wants to have someday, because she believes fashion is about recycling trend and one day people will unload their parents’ trunk to wear their old collections.
