Charmy Kaur is a vivacious and prominent Telugu actress who also appears in Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam films. Born on 17th May, 1987 in Mumbai, Charmy attended the Carmelite Convent English High School, Vasai and joined the Telugu film industry at an age of fifteen. It is not known to many that her first on screen appearance was in the year 19997 in Yash Chopra’s ‘Humko Ishq Ne Mara’. Directed by arjun Sablok, ‘Humko Ishq Ne Mara’ was a telefilms aired on TV and starred Charmy, Aashih Chaudhary, Huroum Mirza, Amrita Raichand and Sagarika Soni.

Charmy made her cinematic debut in the 2002 release Telugu film ‘Nee Thodu Kaavali’ wherein she portrayed the character of a homemaker, actor Deepak’s wife. The film was directed by Bheemaneni Srinivasa Rao and featured Rimmi Sen, Anuradha Pradhan, Ramaprabha, Jahnavi in significant roles. ‘Nee Thodu Kaavali’ was supposedly a remake of the 1999 release Hollywood film ‘Return to Me’ starring David Duchovny and Minnie Driver in lead roles. Charmy’s debut film could not do well at the box office but her performance was well received by the film fraternity.

Charmy’s next few Tamil films like Kanmani’s ‘Aahaa Ethanai Azhagu’ and Vijaya T. Rajendar’s ‘Kadhal Azhivathillai’ and her first Malayalam film ‘Kaattu Chempakam’ also failed at the box office. Charmy Kaur returned with a bang in the Telugu film industry and appeared in several subsequent films with tollywood superstars.

Charmy Kaur appeared alongside Nitin, Arjun, Prakash Raj and Ramya Krishna in Krishna Vamsi’s ‘Sri Anjaneyam’ that was later dubbed in Tamil as ‘Hanumaan’. Charmy next played the female lead opposite Sumanth in the remake of Tamil film ‘Thirumalai’, titled ‘Gowri’ directed by BV Ramana. Her next film ‘Chanti’ gave her an opportunity to work with superstar Ravi Teja.

Charmy Kaur won her the cinema buffs with her charismatic performance in the 2004 tollywood blockbuster ‘Mass’. Written and directed by Raghava Lawrence, ‘Mass’ starred Akkineni Nagarjuna, Jyothika and Charmy in lead roles. The telugu superhit was dubbed into Hindi as ‘Meri Jung - One Man Army’ and Tamil as ‘Veeran’, both of them did very well at the box office. Her next film alongside Prabhas, Asin and Prakash Raj was titled ‘Chakram’ and did reasonably well at the box office.

Charmy’s breakthrough performance was seen in Chandra Sekhar Yeleti’s ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’ alongside Jagapati Babu and Shashank. The heroine oriented suspense film became a critical success but failed to lure the audiences. The film won two Nandi awards, one Filmfare award and one Santosham award. Charmy won the coveted Santosham Best Actress Award and CineMAA Award for Best Actress (Jury) for her riveting performance. ‘Anukokunda Oka Roju’ was remade in Hindi titled ‘Sunday’ starring Ayesha Takia, Ajay Devgan, Irrfan Khan, Arshad Warsi and Anjana Sukhani.

Charmy’s next superhit films include Krishna Vamsi’s ‘Rakhi’ alongside Jr. NTR and Ileana D’cruz and Tulasi Ram’s thriller ‘Mantra’ alongside Sivaji and Kausha. Charmy received the prestigious Nandi Award for Best Actress for ‘Mantra’. Charmy has made special appearances in films like ‘Bhale Dongalu’, ‘King’, and ‘Mahatma’ etc. Charmy Kaur is currently working on a few projects including ‘Sye Aata’,’ Mayagadu’, ‘Jadhugaalu’ and’ Mangala’, all in Telugu.
