Deepika Padukone is a popular actress of the modern Indian cinema and a former supermodel. Born to internationally reputed Badminton player Prakash Padukone on 5th January, 1986 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Deepika is a native of Mangalore. Raised in Bangalore, Deepika studied at Sophia High School and Mount Carmel College in Bangalore. She was more inclined towards extra-curricular activities and events like dance, music and sports. Deepika also played Badminton at school level but was never too enthusiastic on pursuing it as a career. Deepika always desired to make a place for herself in the glamour world and thus plunged into modeling.

Deepika made numerous appearances in commercials- print as well as television for reputed brands like Liril, Dabur, Close-Up, Limca, Parachute, Levi Strauss, Kingfisher Airlines etc. Deepika was also chosen as the brand ambassador for the ‘Jewels of India’, an annual jewelry exhibition. Deepika became a well known face when she appeared as the international cover girl for the renowned cosmetic brand Maybelline. Deepika walked the ramp for ace designers and brands and soon earned the status of a supermodel. She was named as the Model of the Year at Kingfisher Fashion awards and later appeared in Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006. The svelte model also received the Model of the year Award for commercial assignments and Fresh Face of the Year at Zee Fashion Awards in 2006.
Deepika ventured into acting with Kannada film ’Aishwarya’ opposite Upendra after appearing in Himesh Reshammiya’s music video ‘Naam Hai Tera’ for the album ‘Aap Ka Suroor’. Deepika Padukone made a stunning bollywood entry in Farah Khan’s multi-starrer ‘Om Shanti Om’. Based on the plot of reincarnation and revenge, the film became a huge success and Deepika’s performance received positive reviews. Starring opposite Shahrukh Khan, Deepika gave a phenomenal performance and won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award. She was also nominated in the Best Actress category at the Filmfare Awards. Deepika Padukone next featured in Siddharth Anand’s ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Minisha Lamba. The film was a moderate success and placed Deepika in category of most bankable actors of modern times. She appeared in the role of twins in her next film ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ opposite Akshay Kumar, however the film was panned by critics as well as audiences.
Deepka Padukone starred in Imitiaz Ali’s contemporary love story ‘Love Aaj Kal’ opposite Saif Ali Khan. The super hit movie became one of the highest grossing films of 2009 and also earned several awards. Deepika Padukone was recently seen opposite Farhan Akhtar in Excel Entertainment’s ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’. Deepika Padukone’s next film ‘Housefull’ is a comedy and also features Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Ritesh Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal and Boman Irani. Sajid Khan’s ‘Housefull’ is scheduled to release in April, 2010. Her other forthcoming projects include Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey’ and Kunal Kohli’s ‘Break Ke Baad’ opposite Imran Khan. Deepika Padukone dated actor Ranbir Kapoor for some time before breaking up in October, 2009. She has been rumoured to date cricketers M.S. Dhoni and Yuvraaj Singh which she denies utterly.
