Fashion industry has gained popularity since ancient times to the today’s modern era. The Indian fashion have fully occupied the fashion industry with latest fashion and not even changing the customs and traditions of their society. The Indian fashion of the old times has evolved as it is in this new time, offering wide range of succeeded fashionable wearing. The lehenga was initially introduced by the Mughal houses as it is still worn by old family members belonging somewhere to mughal family. Now, it has acquired a new concept and is usually presented as the designer lehenga on the ramp. Today, it has taken a new and first place in the women clothing as it is popular in young girls and even in married women.

The mughal fashion of lehenga choli is now modified with some minor changes and is presently called as designer lehenga. But the designs are evolved from the mughal era with little modifications. The lehenga choli is usually comprised of a long skirt which is called lehenga and a small blouse called choli complemented with the heavy embroidered dupatta. Silk and brocade are the mostly used fabrics in the designer lehenga. Lehenga choli with the heavy dupatta is carried easily and can be worn at any party as it is made by normal fabrics like linen, chiffon and silk.

Lehenga are of mostly ankle length and fits on the waist. Designer lehenga looks graceful and stylish as it is pleated with very clean cuts and flows well. To give a more contemporary look to the lehenga, it is made umbrella shaped as well as a lot of different shapes to make it unique. And this is the difference of designer lehenga from the mughal fashion. The other famous shapes and styles of lehengas are mermaid, A-line, fish tail, paneled or full flair.

The traditional forms of the lehenga dress are found in Gujarat and Rajasthan where women usually wear this lehanga in the ghagra choli style. The famous and demanding design and work on the lehenga is mirror work which is preferred on the cotton lehenga with heavy embroidered and is mostly demanded by the women of these areas. Patch work on the lehenga give it a vibrant and bright look. But in the mughal time, lehanga choli was made of the silk and brocade fabrics with heavy embroidery on it.

Designer lehenga is worn in the weddings and festivals as it is considered as the trend that fulfills the traditional and cultural demands of Indian society. The feminism of Indian women is brought by wearing a traditional dress at holy festivals like Eid, Diwali, Naratri etc.
