Former Miss Asia Pacific and an Indian supermodel, Dia Mirza is a well known Bollywood actress. Dia Mirza was born on 9th December, 1981 to German father Frank Handrich and Bengali mother Deepa. Her father Frank Handrich was an interior designer and a native of Munich, Germany. Her mother remarried Ahmed Mirza and Dia chose to retain the Muslim surname Mirza despite of her being a Hindu. Born and brought up in Hyderabad, Dia studied at the Vidyaranya High School for Boys and Girls and Nasr School, in Khairtabad. She earned her Bachelor’s in Arts degree from the Open University, Hyderabad. Dia started working at an age of 16 as a marketing executive for Sriven Multi-Tech, an advertising firm. Later she featured in a couple of commercials for Lipton, Emami and also appeared in Femina.

Dia Mirza fancies reading, writing, horse riding and music. She is associated with several community services and social causes like HIV Awareness, Prevention of Female Foeticide, Cancer Patients Aid Association, Spastics Society of India, PETA, CRY and NDTV Greenathon. Dia has written a number of articles for many reputed publications including the Hindustan Times. After making a successful career in modeling, Dia chose to participate in the Miss India Beauty Pageant in 2000. Dia was crowned as the second runner up with the title of Miss India – Asia Pacific. Moreover she also won other titles, namely, Sony Viewer's Choice Award and Miss Beautiful Smile. Later that year she represented India at the prestigious Miss Asia Pacific contest in Manila, Philippines, where she was crowned the Miss Asia Pacific, 2000. In the same year Miss India Lara Dutta was crowned Miss Universe and Miss India- first runner up Priyanka Chopra was titled Miss World.
 Dia started her celluloid career with a plausible performance in ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ opposite R. Madhavan. The musical love drama ‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’ was a remake of Gautham Menon's smash hit Tamil film ‘Minnale’. The film became a box office success and was particularly loved by the young audiences. Dia’s next few films like ‘Deewaanapan’ opposite Arjun Rampal, ‘Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge’ opposite Salman Khan, ‘Dum’ opposite Vivek Oberoi, ‘Tumsa Nahin Dekha’ opposite Emran Hashmi, ‘Naam Gum Jaayega’ and ‘Blackmail’ opposite Ajay Devgan failed at the box office and were panned by the critics. However Dia’s performance in ‘Tehzeeb’, ‘Pran Jaye Par Shaan Na Jaye’ and ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’ was appreciated by the critics as well as audiences. Dia Mirza appeared in a special role in Vidhu Vinod Chpra’s blockbuster ‘Parineeta’ alongside Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan. She was later seen in reasonably successful films like ‘Dus’, ‘Fight club’ and ‘Kissan’. She played a gangster in ‘Acid Factory’, where she was the only female lead with six other male co-actors.
Dia has also featured in supporting roles in ‘Lago Raho Munnabhai’ and ‘Kurbaan’. She made special appearances in movies such as ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Luck By Chance’, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ and ‘Heyy Babyy’. Dia was also seen alongside Sonu nIgam in the album ‘Kajra Nite’ that featured the remixes of old Hindi songs. Dia Mirza has also starred in a Bengali film ‘Bidhaatar Lekha’. Dia’s recent release ‘Hum Tum Aur Ghost’ opposite Arshad Warsi is supposedly a remake of Hollywood film ‘Ghost Town’. Dia Mirza is currently working on a couple of projects, namely, ’Familywala’ and ‘Shoebite’.
