Dileep married popular actress Manju Warrier in October 1998 after which she leaft her acting career to be a homemaker. Manju Warrier was one of the most successful actresses of the south Indian industry when she chose to take a sabbatical. She received the Asianet Best Actress Award for ‘Kannezhuthi Pottumthottu, Pathram’ and ‘Kanmadham’. Dileep and his actress wife Manju Warrier have appeared together in a few hit films such as ‘Ee Puzhayum Kadannu’, ‘Sallapam’ released in 1996 and the 1997 release ‘Kudamattam. The couple is blessed with a daughter named Meenakshi.
Dileep was born as Padmanabhan Gopalakrishnan to Padmanabha Pillai and Sarojam in Aluva, Kerala. He attended the SNV Sadanam School, Vidyadhiraja Vidya Bhavan High School and completed his higher studies from Aluva U.C. College and Maharajas College, Ernakulam. Dileep earned his B.A. in Economics and a M.A. in History. Dileep, besides being a brilliant student was a popular mimicry artist.
Dileep started his career as an assistant director in ‘Ennodishtam Koodamo’, ‘Champakulam Thachan’, ‘Mazhayethum Munpe’, ‘Manthramothiram ’ and ‘Ee Puzhayum Kadannu’. Dileep has worked with several top line stars including Mukesh, Madhoo, Mammootty, Kushboo, Jayaram, Vineeth, Kavya Madhavan, Kunchacko Boban, Meera Jasmine, Navya Nair, Bhavana, Siddarth, Samvrutha Sunil, Gopika, Mamta Mohandas, Nayanthara, Charmi and Manju Warrier. Dileep’s exemplary performances have won a number of laurels like Kerala State Film Special Jury Award for ‘Chanthupottu’, Kerala State Film Special Jury Award, Asianet Film Best Actor Award for ‘Kunjikkoonan’, Filmfare Best Actor Award, Asianet Film Best Star Pair Award for ‘Meesa Madhavan’, Asianet Film Best Film Award for ‘Twenty:20’. He has also been honored with Kerala Film Critics Association Best Actor Award, Critics Award for Best Actor, Mathrubhumi Medimix Best Actor Award, Mathrubhumi Popular Actor Award, Atlas Best Supporting Actor Award, Jessy Award and Sathyan Smaraka Award. Dileep has worked in several superhit films like ‘Manathe Kottaram’ alongside Kushboo, ‘Sallaapam’ alongside Manju Warrier, ‘Kalyana Sowgandhikam’ alongside Divya Unni, ‘Ee Puzhayum Kadannu’ alongside Biju Menon and Mohini, ‘Kaikkudanna Nilavu’ alongside Jayaram, Shalini and Ranjitha, ‘Udayapuram Sulthan’ alongside Preetha Vijayakumar and ‘Chandranudikkunna Dikhil’ alongside Kavya Madhavan, Samyuktha Varma and Lal. During the 2000s, Dileep became a popular actor after appearing in several blockbuster films like ‘Thenkasipattanam’ alongside Kavya Madhavan, Suresh Gopi, Samyuktha Varma and Geethu Mohandas, ‘Ee Parakkum Thalika’ alongside Nithya Das and Harisree Ashokan, ‘Meesa Madhavn’ alongside Kavya Madhavan, Jyothirmayi and Jagathy, ‘Kalyanaraman’ alongside Kunchacko Boban, Navya Nair and Lal, ‘C.I.D. Moosa’ alongside Bhavana, Ashish Vidyarthi, ‘Runway’ alongside Kavya Madhavan and Indrajith, ‘Kochi Rajavu’ alongside Kavya Madhavan and Rambha and ‘Chanthupottu’ alongside Indrajith, Gopika, Biju Menon, and Bhavana. Dileep also produced and starred in ‘Twenty: 20’ that became the biggest hit of Malayalam cinema. Directed by Joshi, ‘Twenty: 20’ starred an ensemble cast including Mammootty, Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Jayaram and Bhavana. Dileep has also produced other films like ‘C.I.D. Moosa’, ‘Kathavasheshan’, ‘Pandippada’ and the forthcoming ‘Malarvadi Arts & Sports Club’.
