He born in the state of Kentucky in the farming belt of Illinois and got graduation degree in fine arts from the Missouri State University he highly praise the standards their and he later moved to New York in 1988 to get affiliated with the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Douglas Hannant is the first fashion designer from the Kentucky and certainly not the last, the Midwest have produced number of great designers like Bill Hailstone. Most of the designers from the Midwest are know for Uppers East Siders and Douglas Hannant have followed their legacy of designing great elegant black gowns.
While he was studying at the New York Fashion Institute of Technology he had worked as an assistant to Bloomingdales then he worked for Barney in New York as a display manger according to Douglas Hannant he gained the valuable experience of fashion world from Bloomindales and Barneys, he learned about the customers their need and their demands. Douglas Hannant launched his first collection in 1996 in New York his work portrays the fusion of classic designing and modern styles with fresh cuts, he didn’t believe in coming with the same style every time but his collection surprises even the critics every time. Douglas Hannant has refined his designs solely from the experiences he gained in more than a decade; he has been successful in following the footsteps Geoffrey Beene. He is a great admirer of Geoffrey’s work and he also took the inspiration from Geoffrey’s work for his first collection which he launched in 1996 at Bergdorf Goodman, and Beene had also appreciated Douglas work. Douglas Hannant had successfully make his place in fashion world , he is now identify as a international women cloth designer recently he had launch new showroom at the Plaza New York and has attracted lots of international clients from high societies, he has a special gift of socializing he is known for his good networking abilities. The two signatures of Douglas Hannant are humility and modesty. He can easily socialize with black tie people and at the same time he understands the needs of a women from the high society of Manhattan but he never lose his true identity that is designs based on the fusion of modern and classic trends. He believes in balanced life and says when he is in New York he attend parties regularly and lives a total metro life but at the weekends he visit his farm house located in a wild life preserver, both two life’s are totally opposite to each other . After more than a decade Douglas Hannant has secured a respectable place in the international fashion world, even now his new collection surprises the critics every time. He is a proud owner of his show room at Plaza which is designed by a Geoffrey Bradfield a renowned interior designer and is now on a goal to go international.
