Emilio Pucci is a world renowned Italian fashion designer for his illustrious life as both a fashion designer and sports person. Emilio Pucci was rightfully referred to as ‘prince of prints’. He was hailed from one of the respected families in Florence. He was born in 1914 and died in 1992. Considering he was born in one of the noble families in Italy, he was an avid sport enthusiast and gentleman throughout his life. He had been a well known sports person in Italy who had played for the national team many a times.

Emilio Pucci became a fashion designer accidentally. Before that, he was more in to all sorts of sports which he was interested in. However, destiny had it in his way to become a renowned fashion designer. This particular incident happened in 1947, as Emilio Pucci was spotted wearing one of his own designs during his trip with college ski team. Many took note of the design he worn during that occasion and it played a major role in his entry to the fashion world. One of the photographers of Harper’s Bazaar, Toni Frissell, asked him to design a skiwear for her. He happily obliged and designed one beautiful skiwear for her. Frissel played a major role in getting his design noticed and eventually Emilio Pucci realized his newfound talent in the direction of fashion designing. He ended up doing a special feature on skiwear for Frissel’s editor. This incident marked the birth of one of the most renowned fashion designers ever in history.

His stint with the magazine earned him lots of positive attention and he was offered to join many fashion designing companies. However, he started his own highly appreciable collection on the Island of Capri.
However, one can’t completely overlook the significant participation of Emilio Pucci in the Mussolini dictatorship, during World War II. Emilio Pucci’s close alliance with Mussolini’s eldest daughter is widely known. However, he turned the table completely around later on and moved away from his loyalty for Mussolini camp. Now let’s take a look at the success Emilio Pucci had seen during his heyday. We can see that he was trying to cash in on his expertise with skiwear when he started his career in 1949; this clearly resulted in him making more swim wears. However, he was quick to change the direction next year towards scarves. Subsequently, he found his area of expertise – women wear. He started focussing his energies on women wear and became a well known designer in no time. Jackie Kennedy and Sophia Loren have used his creations and this resulted in the increased popularity of his designs. When you realize the fact that Marilyn Monroe was wearing one of Emilio Pucci creations when she was buried, you would know the reach and significance of his designs during that period. Upon Emilio Pucci’s demise, his daughter Laudomia Pucci took over the charge of the company. Julio Espada was given the reigns in 2000 which marked a complete deviation from the designer prints which were characteristics to Emilio Pucci’s designs. This move had backfired and resulted in Christian LaCroix taking charge of the company. This has finally put things in order and the company has become prosperous all over again.
