Francis Hendy learned the art of fashion craftsmanship from his mother, Elizabeth, by combining materials and skins for people in Trinidad, where he was born. His genius and artistic design as the fusion base texture in color, design, and fabric express the new trend in fashion design.

Francis Hendy begins his pursue by creating his own soccer pants since he finds it difficult to get due to his muscle-carved legs from years of practice in soccer. His dream as a professional soccer player is halted due to an injury he sustained during the game. He then continues his passion in fashion as his career, by devoting most of his time in creating new hand-made clothes. He successfully established a new business in Trinidad, using his house as his first workshop and office.
His obsession in developing further career has brought him to New York in 1972. Here he contacted his Trinidad colleagues to create custom-made suits for them. He demands himself to add more skills in tailoring and designing by attending Parson’s School of Design, and Fashion Institute of Technology, as well as apprenticeship with a tailor-master. The deeper knowledge and new skills he gained from these educations and practice has sharpened his talent and natural craftsmanship. Francis Hendy founded his first company Francis Handy Inc. in 1986 where he built a small workshop in Brooklyn.
As expected, albeit his business in Brooklyn hits a success, he decides to move to Manhattan to open a bigger showroom on West 39th Street in 1998. Here Francis Hendy creations become more famous and many R&B artists such as R. Kelly, LL Cool J, Missy Elliot, and Macy Gray wear his designs due to his appearance on MTV show. Rapper DMX also appeared in his leather-jackets’ design on his latest action film ‘Exit Wounds’. The winning of Michael award 2000 attests Francis Hendy the ultimate recognition of the designer-of-the year for his innovative and creative designs for Menswear. This award is such an overwhelming moment to him considering the previous award winners are top-class designers such as Joseph Abboud, Hugo Boss, and Marc Jacobs (Louis Vuitton). Francis Hendy siblings then join him for the Company’s expansion, and also append more styles in his upcoming products. His collection for Fall 2001 is dedicated to his father who died in the same year, to commemorate his life and passion in fashion. This collection presents more sophisticated and modern-retro look without ignoring the emotional touch. The sales rate on this collection reaches at its top achievement. The fusion in color and outline as well as avant-garde fabrics decanted in his philosophy has been an inspiration for new trend in fashion design. Francis Hendy extends his new horizon by creating women’s collection in 2002. And in that same year, his menswear’s collection applying different colors of leather materials and animal coat has once again received a very positive respond from the fashion crowd. Francis Hendy released his initial store of 1700 sq.ft. in a prestigious district of Soho, New York. He is now expecting to develop his business into a wholesaler, and open its own department store with his lines of products.
