Gianfranco Ferré’s Traditional and Classical Styles
An Italian designer Gianfranco Ferré was born in Italy on August 15, 1944. He took up a degree in Architecture in one of the excellent schools in Milan which is the Politecnico in the year 1969. Gianfranco Ferré was known as the “Frank Lloyd Wright of Italian Fashion” by the famous Women’s Wear Daily. Because he graduated as an architect, he always creates well-defined designs in his work. He sees to it that he properly planned out every details of his collection to cater the needs of his customers. Gianfranco Ferré would always want to produce a fine collection in a classical and functional type that brings a powerful impression to the onlookers. Aside from this, he also uses high quality materials and embellishments to come up with elegant collections.

After he finished his chosen degree, Gianfranco Ferré works as a freelance accessory and jewelry designer from the years 1969 to 1976. He also worked as a designer in Baila Milan in the year 1974. After taking lots of experience the fashion industry, in 1978 he successfully launched his own label in the women’s wear category with the effort also of his co-designer, Franco Matiolli. The fine collections that were showcased during this time were a combination of architectural asymmetry and fantasy dressing thus making it glamorous. His unique and elegant collections were given life by making every detail of the clothes exaggerated by enhancing the cuffs or collars and the jackets are intensified by silhouette. Moreover, the luxurious fabrics that he used in his collections are leather, fur on long evening coats and dresses and taffeta with sparkling colors of gold or white, stark colors of red and black.

The successful carrier of Gianfranco Ferré did not stop here because in 1978 he was able to present and introduced secondary Oaks by Ferré line. Another big event in his career was the debut of his men’s wear collection in the year 1982 and followed by the launching of his fragrances collection. Although the collection of Ferre’s men’s wear is less extravagant as compared to the women’s wear collections but people still embraced his fine and unique men’s wear collection. The collection of his men’s wear was a combination of traditional styles but captivates modern styles of dressing. He favorably cites his customer as a man who embraces the beauty of classical and traditional styles. In fact, Gianfranco Ferré made improvements on his tailoring styles and techniques to be able to come up with a more relaxed and expansive shape for men.

Gianfranco Ferré also have lots of Fashion exhibitions like the one’s held in California’s La Jolla Museum of Art in 1982 which was the “Italian Re-Evolution”. This was followed by the exhibit held in Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge in the year 1982 which was called “Intimate Architecture: Contemporary Clothing Design”. Actually, Gianfranco Ferré attended many fashion exhibits during his entire career. Apart from this, he achieved many awards and recognitions because of his exemplary skills and talents in designing. Gianfranco Ferré also received lots of awards like the one’s happened in 1976 which was the Tiberio d'Oro award. He was also awarded as one of the best Stylist of the Year given by the Women’s Wear Daily and Asahi Shimbun in 1983. Soon after this, in 1985 he received 3 awards like Modeepreis for Women’s Fashion in Monaco, Cutty Sark Men's Fashion in New York and in Milan he was given a Medal of Civic Merit.
