Gracy Singh is an Indian actress who appears in Hindi and regional language films. Gracy Singh played the female lead opposite Aamir Khan in Oscar nominated ‘Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India’. Born on 20th July, 1980 in New Delhi, Gracy Singh attended the Manav Sthali School, New Delhi. She received training in the classical dance form Bharathnatyam and subsequently joined the Planets dance troupe. She gave riveting dance performances along with her dance troupe and was noticed by Sanjiv Bhattacharya which eventually led to the leading role of Dinky in ‘Amanat’. Gracy Singh’s acting career began with Zee Tv’s popular family drama ‘Amanat’ that made her a household name.

She ventured into bollywood with supporting roles in Gulzar’s ‘Hu Tu Tu’ alongside Nana Patekar, Suneil Shetty and Tabu and Satish Kaushik’s ‘Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain’ alongside Anil Kapoor, Kajol and Anupam Kher. However she got her big break in Ashutosh Gowariker’s blockbuster epic ‘Lagaan: Once Upon A Time in India’. Gracy had to appear for rigorous auditions before getting selected for the leading role. She was asked to dance on the popular song ‘Hoton Mein Aisi Baat’ from Dev Anand- Vyjanthimala starrer ‘Jewel Thief’. Gracy was chosen to play the role of a village girl, the love interest of male protagonist played by Aamir Khan. The film became a huge commercial and critical success and Gracy was well received.
 Gracy’s debut film as the female lead became India’s official entry to the 2002 Oscars and was nominated for the best foreign language film at the Academy Awards. The film also won seven National Awards, ten IIFA awards and nine Filmfare awards. Gracy Singh won the special ‘Face of the Year’ award at IIFA and Zee Cine Best Female Debut Award.
Later Gracy Singh was seen in films like in successful films like Honey Irani’s ‘Armaan’ alongside bollywood superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Priety Zinta, Prakash Jha’s acclaimed ‘Gangaajal’ opposite Ajay DEvgan and the Rajkumar Hirani’s superhit comedy ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ alongside Sunil Dutt, Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi and Boman Irani.
Gracy Singh also featured in not so successful movies like ‘Muskaan’ opposite Aftab Shivdasani, ‘Shart: The Challenge’ alongside Tusshar Kapoor and Amrita Arora, ‘Wajahh: A Reason to Kill’ alongside Arbaaz Khan and Shamita Shetty, ‘The White Land alongside Aashish Chaudhary, Seema Biswas and Raghuvir Yadav’, ‘Deshdrohi’ alongside Kamaal Rashid Khan, Krishna Abhishek and Hrishitaa Bhat and the lead role in ‘Chanchal’.
Gracy Singh has also been active in regional cinema, she has done films in Punjabi, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Bengali films. She has starred in the Telugu superhit ‘Santosham’ starring Akkineni Nagarjuna, Prabhu Deva, Shriya Saran, and Gracy Singh. The film was later dubbed in Hindi as ‘Pehli Naazar ka Pehla Pyaar’ and in Tamil as ‘Santhosha Vanille’. Gracy Singh’s other regional ventures include ‘Meghave Meghave’ in Kannada, ‘Aseema– Beyond Boundaries’ in Bengali, ‘Loudspeaker’ in Malayalam, ‘Rama Rama Krishna Krishna’ in Telugu and ‘Lakh Pardesi Hoiye’ in Punjabi.
Gracy Singh is also a social activist and runs an NGO called ‘Save our Souls’ that works for the abolition of the Dowry practice.
