Jayam Ravi is a famed Indian actor who predominantly appears in Tamil films. Jayam Ravi has been honored with the prestigious Tamil Nadu State Film Award for the best Actor for commercially and critically successful film ‘M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi’. Jayam has also starred in blockbuster films like ‘Unnakum Ennakum’ and ‘Santhosh Subramaniam’.

Jayam Ravi was born as Ravi Mohan on September 10, 1980 to editor Mohan and Varalakshmi Mohan in Chennai. His brother M Raja is a well known director while his sister Roja Mohan is a dentist. Jayam Ravi attended the Jawahar Vidyalaya in Ashok Nagar and earned his graduate degree in degree in Visual Communications from Loyola College, Chennai. Jayam Ravi is a trained dancer and also did a course in acting from the Kishore Namit Kapur Institute in Mumbai.

Jayam Ravi is married to film producer Sujatha Vijayakumar’s daughter Aarti Vijayakumar. Jayam Ravi worked as an assistant director to Suresh Krishna in the Tamil thriller ‘Aalavandhan’ starring Kamal Haasan, Raveena Tandon and Manisha Koirala.

Jayam Ravi made his film debut in M. Raja’s Tamil film ‘Jayam’ released in the year 2003. The film was the remake of Telugu film of the same name and starred Jayam Ravi, Sadha, Senthil, Gopichand, Mayilsamy, Suman Shetty and Ramesh Khanna. The film besides being a blockbuster also won critical acclaim and also received the Filmfare Best Movie Award South. Jayam Ravi again teamed with M. Raja in the 2004 release Tamil film ‘M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi’ which was the remake of Telugu film ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi’. ‘M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi’ starred Jayam Ravi, Asin Thottumkal, Vivek, Prakash Raj, Nadhiya, Subbaraju and Janagaraj. Jayam Ravi received the coveted Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor for this film.

Jayam Ravi next strred in Babu Yogeswaran’s ‘Daas’ alongside Renuka Menon, Vadivelu and Livingston, S.Rajkumar’s ‘Mazhai’ alongside Shriya, Rahul Dev and Vadivelu, Saran’s ‘Idhaya Thiruda’ opposite Kamna Jethmalani, S.Ezhil’s ‘Deepavali’ alongside Bhavana, Raghuvaran and Vijayakumar and did a cameo appearance in Viji’s ‘Vellitherai’ starring Prakash Raj, Prithviraj, Gopika and Lakshmi Rai.

Jayam Ravi played the male lead in Tamil blockbuster ‘Unnakum Ennakum’, a romantic drama film directed by M Raja. The film starred Jayam Ravi and Trisha Krishnan as the lead pair while Richa Pallod, Prabhu, Bhagyaraj, Geetha, Santhanam and Ganja Karuppu. ‘Unnakum Ennakum’ was the remake of blockbuster, multiple -award winning Telugu film ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’. The original Telugu film was the directorial debut of choreographer-actor Prabhu Deva and starred Siddharth and Trisha Krishnan in lead roles.

Jayam Ravi received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Tamil Actor Award for his performance in ‘Santosh Subramaniam’, a Tamil romantic-musical film directed by Raja Mohan. The blockbuster film starred Jayam Ravi, Genelia D'Souza, Prakash Raj, Kirat Bhattal and Santhanam. Jayam Ravi continues the success stride with romantic-action drama film ‘Dhaam Dhoom’ also starring Kangana Ranaut, Jayaram, Lakshmi Rai and Srinath. His latest release was S. P. Jananathan’s action adventure ‘Peranmai’ alongside Roland Kickinger, Ponvannan, Vadivelu and Urvashi.

Jayam Ravi’s ‘Thillalangadi’ is scheduled to be released sometime in August this year. Directed by M Raja, ‘Thillalangadi’ features Jayam Ravi, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shaam, Prabhu Ganesan, Suhasini Maniratnam, Vadivelu and Santhanam. He will also be seen in Prabhu Deva’s ‘Ich’ opposite Hansika Motwani and Ameer Sultan’s ‘Aadhi Bhagavan’ opposite Mamta Mohandas.
