Popularly referred to as the Jumping Jack of Bollywood, Jeetendra is an eminent Bollywood actor who has appeared in over two hundred Hindi films till date. Born as Ravi Kapoor on 7 April 1943 in Amritsar to Amarnath and Krishna Kapoor, Jeetendra hailed from a business family. His family was in the business of imitation jewelry and it is through this business and he got introduced to filmmaker V. Shantaram who cast him as Sandhya’s double in the 1959 release ‘Navrang’.

It is believed that Jeetendra wanted to marry Hema Malini, however she backed out of the relationship and married Dharmendra. Jeetendra later married his childhood sweetheart Shobha Kapoor and they are blessed with a daughter Ekta Kapoor and son Tusshar Kapoor. Shobha Kapoor was previously an air hostess with British Airways and now serves as the joint MD of Balaji Telefilms. While Ekta is the well known TV and film producer, Tusshar Kapoor is a popular Bollywood actor. Jeetendra has appeared alongside his son Tusshar Kapoor in their home production ‘Kucch to Hai’, a psycho thriller drama.
His first film as a lead was V. Shantaram‘s ‘Sehra’ followed by ‘Geet Gaya Patharon Ne’ opposite Rajshree and Ravikant Nagaich’s ‘Farz’ opposite Babita, Karishma and Kareena Kapoor’s mother. It was through films like ’Farz’, ‘Humjoli’ and ‘Caravan’ that he got the name ‘Jumping Jack’ owing to his vigorous dance moves. Jeetendra appeared in several blockbuster films like ‘Jeene Ki Raah’, ‘Swarg Narak’, ‘Prichay’, ‘Asha’, ‘Khudgarz’, ‘Justice Chaudhry’, ‘Mawaali’, ‘Himmatwala’, ‘Jaani Dushman’, and ‘Tohfa’. His onscreen chemistry with Sridevi and Jaya Prada was simply riveting and the sure shot formula of a successful film. Jeetendra also starred in RaviChopra’s multi starrer blockbuster ‘The Burning Train’ alongside Parveen Babi, Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini, Vinod Mehra and Neetu Singh.

Jeetendra was honored with the Guest of Honour Award at the eighteenth Ujala Cinema Express Awards in the year 1998. He later won the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award, Zee Gold Bollywood Movie Lifetime Achievement Award, Star Screen Lifetime Achievement Award and Sansui Television Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the Living Legend of Indian Cinema Award at the Atlantic City and the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award.
Jeetendra’s wife Shobha Kapoor and daughter Ekta Kapoor run the production house Balaji Telefilms that produces TV serials in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu. Their most populat Tv soaps include ‘Kyunki saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’, ‘Hum Paanch’, ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’, ‘Kasautii Zindagi Ki’, ‘Kabhi Souten Kabhi Saheli’, ‘Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat’, ‘Kkusum’, ‘Kasamh Se’, ‘Bandini’, ‘Pavitra Rishtaa’, among others. Jeetendra appeared as a judge alongside Hema Malini in ‘Dancing Queen’ and Sony Entertainment’s ‘Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa’.
Jeetendra’s family run film production house has produced films like ‘Kuuch to Hai’ starring Jeetendra, his son Tusshar Kapoor and Esha Deol, ‘Krishna Cottage’ starring Sohail Khan and Isha Koppikar, ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum’ starring Tusshar Kapoor, Riteish Deshmukh, Neha Dhupia and Isha Koppikar, multi starrer acclaimed film ‘Shootout at Lokhandwala’. Their forthcoming film ‘Once Upon a Time in Mumbai’ is set in the backdrop of gangster activities in Mumbai and features Ajay Devgan, Emran Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Prachi Desai.
Jeetendra and his son appeared as father-son in their first home production film ‘Kucch to Hai’, inspired from Hollywood films ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ and ‘Scream’. The film also starred Rishi Kapoor, Esha Deol, Anita Hassanandani and Yash Tonk. Jeetendra also made a cameo in a promotional video for Shahrukh Khan- Deepika Padukone starrer ‘Om Shanti Om’.
