Jimmy Shergill is a famed Indian actor who has appeared in award winning films like ‘Maachis’, ‘Mohabbatein’, ‘Munnabahi MBBS’, ‘Yahaan’, ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ and ‘A Wednesday’. Jimmy Shergill is known for his versatility; he has worked in all kind of films from comedy to family drama, from intense love stories to thrillers, Jimmy has plunged into all.
Jimmy Shergill was born as Jasjit Shergill on born 3 December 1970 in Punjab and attended Bikram Collehe, Patiala and Hindu College, Delhi. Jimmy Shergill is happily married to Priyanka Puri and the couple is blessed with a son named Vir.
Jimmy was first seen in a supporting role in Gilzar’s ‘Maachis’ alongside Tabu, Om Puri and Chandrachur Singh. The film received the coveted Golden Lotus Award - National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment and Jimmy won accolades for his exemplary performance.
Jimmy Shergill next appeared in Desh Deepak’s ‘Jahan Tum Le Chalo’ alongside Nirmal Pandey and Sonali Kulkarni, however Jimmy’s big break came in the year 2000 when he starred in Yash Chopra’s multistarrer ‘Mohabbatein’. Directed by Aditya Chopra, ‘Mohabbatein’ starred superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The film was based on the romantic relationship between three teen couples played by Jimmy Shergill- Preeti Jhangiani, Uday Chopra- Shamita Shetty and Jugal Hansraj- Kim Sharma. The film was a huge success and Jimmy became a well recognised name.
Jimmy Shergill appeared in many reasonably successful films like ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’, ‘Dil Hai Tumhara’, ‘Dil Vil Pyaar Vyar’, ‘Haasil’ and ‘Hum Tum’. Jimmy’s most successful film till date is Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Munnabhai MBBS’ wherein he shared the screen with Sanjay Dutt, Arshad Warsi, Boman Irani and Gracy Singh.

Jimmy Shergill played a supporting rolein ‘Lago Rahe Munnabhai’, a sequel to the superhit ‘Munnabhai MBBS’. ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ was also a blockbuster and Jimmy was successful in creating an impact with his acting. Jimmy Shergill received immense appreciation for his latest release ‘My Name is Khan’ wherein he portrays the character od the protagonist’s brother. Produced Hiroo Yash Johar and Gauri Khan and directed by Karan Johar, ‘My Name is Khan’ is based on the aftermath of 9/11 terrorist attack. The film starring Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Jimmy Shergill and Sonia Jehan in pivotal roles became a major success in Indian as well as overseas market.
Jimmy Shergill has also acted in a several Punjabi movies namely ‘Mannat’, ‘Yaaran Naal Baharan’, ‘Tera Mera Ki Rishta’ and ‘Munde UK De’. All his Punjabi films have done overwhelming business in overseas market. Jimmy was recently seen in the TV commercial for Aliva alongside Chitrangda Singh.
