The Bollywood actor John Abraham is known for his performances in movies like ’Dhoom’, ‘Dostana, ’Zinda’ and ‘Water’. A former model, John won the Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 1999. Born on 17 December, 1972 to a Nasrani father and a Parsi mother, John Abraham is an introvert and a conservative in nature. John Abraham attended the Bombay Scottish School, completed his BA Economics Honours and later studied MMS at the Mumbai Educational Trust (MET). John was the captain of his school soccer team and also learnt Taekwondo in college.

John Abraham took up his first job with Time & Space Media Entertainment Promotions Ltd and later joined Nexus as a media planner. John Abraham plunged into modelling when he won Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 1999 and became the first runner up at the Manhunt International, Philippines. John took up a few modelling assignments in Singapore, Hong Kong, London and New York before appearing in TV commercials and music videos in India. John Abraham gained popularity with the Provogue TV commercial after which he decided to join bollywood as an actor. John abraham’s first huge commercial success came in Yash Raj Films’ ‘Dhoom’ released in 2004. Directed by Sanjay Gadhvi, ‘Dhoom’ became a blockbuster and Joh’s performance in a negative role was appreciated by the critics. John was next seen in commercially successful movies like Karan Johar’s thriller ‘Kaal’ and Priyadarshan’s comedy ‘Garam Masala.’ John received critical acclaim for his exceptional performance in Deepa mehta’s ‘Water’ based on the plight of widows in India during the British Raj. ‘Water’ earned huge popularity in the overseas markets and was nominated at the 79th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category. In 2006, John embarked on his first world tour ‘The Rockstars Concert’ alongwith a few renowned Bollywood stars. John earned positive reviews for his next release ‘Zinda’ that also featured Sanjay Dutt and Lara Dutta. John also starred in reasonably successful movies ‘Taxi No 9211’ and ‘Kabul Express’.
After a few flops in 2007, namely, ‘Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love’, ‘No Smoking’ and ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal’, John rocked the box office with Karan Johar’s ‘Dostana’ released in 2008. John Abraham later appeared in Yash Raj Films’ ‘New York’ set in the backdrop of 7/11 incident in New York. John Abraham is dating the sensuous actress Bipasha Basu for around 8 Years and the couple has starred together in a few films like ‘Jism’, ‘Madhoshi’ and ‘Aetbaar’. John has also appeared in a number of TV commercials for renowned brands like Wrangler, Yamaha, Clinic All Clear, Castrol Power1, Fastrack eye gear and Samsung mobile phones. A humanitarian at heart, John Abraham is associated with a number of charities including PETA, Habitat For Humanity and raising funds for Leelavati hospital, Mumbai.
