Leading the fourth generation of the renowned first family of Indian cinema, The Kapoors, Karisma Kapoor is a bollywood actress who has given stunning performances in super hits like ‘Raja Hindustani’ and ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’. Karisma Kapoor was born on 25th June, 1974 to actor parents Randhir and Babita Kapoor. Karisma’s great-grandfather Prithviraj Kapoor was a notable actor and grandfather Raj Kapoor was a veteran actor and filmmaker. Her Uncle Rishi Kapoor and Aunt Neetu Kapoor are the superstars on 70s. Her younger sister Kareena Kapoor and cousin Ranbir Kapoor are also popular bollywood actors. Affectionately called as Lolo, Karisma attended the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai.

Karisma is married to childhood friend and businessman Sanjay Kapoor. Before getting married to Sanjay, Karisma was engaged to Abhishek Bachchan, a bollywood actor and son of legendary actors Amitabh bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. Karisma and Sanjay’s daughter, Samaira was born in 2005. She has recently given birth to a baby boy, Kiaan Raj on 12th March, 2010. Karisma made her bollywood debut in ‘Prem Qaidi’ released in 1991 that did moderately well business at the box office. Karisma’s next few films like ‘Police Officer’, ‘Jaagruti’, ‘Nischaiy’, ‘Sapne Saajan Ke’ and ‘Deedar’ failed at the box office and were panned by the critics. Eventually she appeared in a number of mega hits like ‘Jigar’, ‘Anari’, ‘Raja Babu’, ‘Coolie No.1’, ‘Jeet’ and ‘Saajan Chale Sasural’. However most of these movies had an ensemble cast and Karisma was left with a little scope to demonstrate her acting skills.
 Her biggest hit as a lead came in 1996 with the mega success of Dharmesh Darshan’s ‘Raja Hindustani’ opposite Aamir Khan. ‘Raja Hindustani’ became the highest earner of the year and Karisma got her first Filmfare Best Actress Award. She next starred in Yash Chopra’s romantic musical film ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ alongside Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. The film did extremely well at the box office and Karisma won the prestigious national Award and Filmfare Ward for her performance in a supporting role. Yash Chopra’s ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ was followed by the superhit movies ‘Biwi No. 1’ opposite Salman Khan and ‘Haseena Maan Jayegi’ opposite Govinda, both the movies directed by David Dhawan. Karisma Kapoor worked with an ensemble cast in Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United’ alongside Salman Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Mohnish Bahl. The success of the Rajshri Productions’ ‘Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United’ was accented with another success in ‘Jaanwar’ opposite Akshay Kumar.
Karisma Kapoor won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her breakthrough role in ‘Fiza’ and another Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance for ‘Zubeidaa’. Both these movies received immense critical acclaim and Karisma was appreciated for her versatility.
She next featured in ‘Shakti - The Power’ released in 2002 and earned several nominations in the Best Actress category. After appearing in a couple of movies, namely, ‘Baaz: A Bird In Danger’ and ‘Mere Jeevan Saathi’, Karisma took a break from Bollywood. However she was seen in a TV series named ‘Karishma: A Miracle of Destiny’ telecasted on Sahara TV. She also appeared as a judge in Star Plus’s dance show Nach Baliye 4 alongside Arjun Rampal and Farah Khan.
