Karthik Sivakumar, popularly known as Karthi is a famed Tamil actor who made his debut in the critically and commercially successful film ‘Paruthiveeran’ and later appeared in superhit films like ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ and ‘Paiyaa’.

Karthik Sivakumar is the son of eminent actor Sivakumar and younger brother of superstar Surya Sivakumar. Surya Sivakumar is married to popular actress Jyothika and the couple is blessed with a daughter, Diya and is expecting their second child. Jyothika and Surya have appeared in around six films together including the blockbusters ‘Kaakha Kaakha’ and ‘Perazhagan’.

Born on May 25, 1977 in Chennai, Karthi attended the St. Bede's Anglo Indian Higher Secondary School in Chennai and later studied at the Crescent Engineering College. He received a scholarship to US where he pursued his Mechanical Engineering degree. He later obtained his Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Binghamton University.

After returning to India, Karthi was offered a pivotal role in Mani Ratnam’s critically acclaimed film ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’; however he chose to assist Mani Ratnam in ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’. The film starred Surya, Madhavan, Siddharth, Meera Jasmine, Trisha and Esha Deol. He also assisted Mani Ratnam in its Hindi remake titled ‘Yuva’ starring Ajay Devgan, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukherji, Kareena Kapoor, Vivek Oberoi and Esha Deol.

Karthik Sivakumar or Karthi made his film debut in the 2007 blockbuster ‘Paruthiveeran’ written and directed by Ameer Sultan, who had previously directed ‘Mounam Pesiyadhe’ and ‘Raam’. Priyamani played the female lead opposite Karthi while Ponvannan, Saravanan and Kanja Karuppu appeared in supporting roles. The film was set in the backdrop of Criminal Tribes Act of 1871 in Tamilnadu and won immense critical appreciation. The film also became a huge commercial success and ran for over a year in theatres.

‘Paruthiveeran’ was screened at the 58th Berlin International Film Festival and received the

Karthi played the lead role alongside Reemma Sen and Andrea Jeremiah in Selvaraghavan’s ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’. R. Parthiban was also seen in a pivotal role in the fantasy- adventure film ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’. When released, the film received mixed reviews, but later the collections picke up and it turned out to be a commercially successful venture.

Karthi appeared in N. Linguswamy’s Tamil romantic- action thriller film ‘Paiyaa’ opposite Tamannaah Bhatia. Produced by N. Subash Chandra Bose and written by the director N. Linguswamy himself, ‘Paiyaa’ also starred Milind Soman, Sonia Deepti and Jehan in pivotal roles. The film was released in Telugu titled Awara and received positive response.

Karthi’s ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is currently in its post production stage and is scheduled to be released in a couple of months. Directed by ‘Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu’ fame Susindran, ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ is a thriller drama starring Karthi and Kajal Aggarwal.Karthi is also playing the male lead opposite stunning actress Tamannaah Bhatia in ‘Thenavattu’ fame Siva’s Tamil thriller ‘ Siruthai’ that may release in the last quarter of the year.
