Kay Kay Menon

Kay Kay Menon is a critically acclaimed Indian actor best known for his performance in ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’, ‘Black Friday’, ‘Sarkar’, ‘Life in a metro’, ‘Shaurya’ and the most recent ‘Gulaal’. Kay Kay Menon was born as Krishna Kumar Menon in Kerala and his family moved to Mumbai when he was very young. He attended the St Joseph's Boys High School, graduated in Physics from Mumbai University and earned an MBA from the University of Pune. He was very popular among his classmates for his ghazals and poetry.

Kay Kay Menon initially aspired to join the advertising industry and also worked on the TV commercials for Kinetic Honda and Marlboro cigarettes. However his interest soon shifted to theatre production where he met Nivedita Bhattacharya whom he later got married to. Kay Kay Menon then appeared in television shows like Pradhan Mantri, Darr and low budget movies like ‘Bhopal Express’, ‘Paanch’ and ‘Chhal’. His first film was a protagonist was the critically acclaimed ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ directed by Sudhir Mishra. Set in seventies against the backdrop of the Indian Emergency ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ also starred Shiney Ahuja and Chitrangda Singh in pivotal roles. The film was screened at a number of film festivals at different places including Turkey, Estonia, Florence, Berlin, Edinburgh, Washington, Goa, Bradford, Manchester, Los Angeles, Dallas, and California.

Kay Kay Menon next starred in ‘Black Friday’ based on the true incidents of the 1993 Bombay Bomb Blasts. The film was screened at Locarno International Film Festival and won immense critical acclaim. The film had to wait for two years before a nationwide release in the year 2007 owing to certain controversies around the portrayal of various characters in the film.

Kay Kay Menon also appeared in a few commercial mainstream films like ‘Deewar’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Akshaye Khanna, ‘Silsiilay’ alongside Tabu and Celina Jaitley, ‘Sarkar’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, ‘Main Meri Patni aur Woh’ alongside Rajpal Yadav and Rituparna Sengupta, ‘Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.’ opposite Raima Sen, ‘Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam’ alongside Rahul Bose and Mallika Sherawat and ‘Aagey Se Right’ alongside Shreyas Talpade and Shehnaz Treasurywala.

Kay Kay Menon played the male lead in Madhur Bhandarkar’s award winning film ‘Corporate’ opposite Bipasha Basu. He was also seen in a supporting role in Anurag Basu’s ‘Life in a Metro’ as Shilpa Shetty’s disloyal husband. The film also starred Sharman Joshi, Irrfan Khan, Konkona Sen Sharma, Shiney Ahuja, Kangana Ranaut, among others. Kay Kay Menon was nominated for the Filmfare Best Villain Award for Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Sarkar’.

Kay Kay Menon won accolades for his performance in Samar Khan’s ‘Shaurya’ also starring Rahul bose, Javed Jafferey and Minisha Lamba. ‘Shaurya’ was inspired from Rob Reiner’s Hollywood film ‘A Few Good Men’ starring Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon and Jack Nicholson. Kay Kay Menon was recently seen in Anurag Kashyap’s unconventional political drama ‘Gulaal’ alongside Jesse Randhawa, Mahi Gill, Abhimanyu Shekhar Singh, Deepak Dobriyal and Ayesha Mohan.

Kay Kay Menon is currently working in Makrand Deshpande’s 'Drream Man', supposedly a spoof on Bollywood and Ankush Bhatt’s ‘Bhindi Bazar’ alongside Piyush Mishra, Pawan Malhotra and Shilpa Shukla.
