Mandira Bedi was born on 15th April, 1972 in Mumbai in a Punjabi Bedi family, a native of Fazilka town in Punjab. Mandira attended the Cathedral & John Connon High School. After completing her education, she joined the Oglivy & Mather Advertising Agency as an executive. It was during that time that Mandira was offeref the lead role of popular Tv show ‘Shanti’ aired on Doordarshan.
After appearing in ‘Shanti’, Mandira Bedi was seen in a negative role in Ekta Kapoor’s family drama ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’. She played the vamp in the show and became a household name. Mandira Bedi has appeared in many television shows like ‘Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai’, ‘Ghar Jamai’, ‘Papa Ban Gaya Hero’, among others.
Mandira Bedi has been a top line TV presenter with different kind of shows in her kitty. She has also hosted many events and award ceremonies. Mandira Bedi first hosted sOny Entertainment Television’s ‘Fame Gurukul’ that was based on the based on the Spanish/French show ‘Operación Triunfo/Star Academy’. However Mandira Bedi made a breakthrough in her career by performing the hosting duties alongside Indian commentator, compere and quizmaster Charu Sharma during the 2007 Cricket World Cup. The svelte beauty clad in alluring sarees added a fresh feel and glamour to the whole cricket affair. Mandira Bedi was seen in the cricket oriented show ‘Extra Innings’ aired on Set Max during the Cricket World Cup, 2007. Not only had she enchanted the audiences with her charismatic personality but her knowledge about cricket as well.
However she created a controversy by criticizing the Bangladesh National Cricket team after their win against the Indian team in one of the preliminary stage matches. The Bangladesh audiences got furious over her criticism. Later in one of the matches, she was seen donning a saree that sported the flags of participating nations in the World Cup. The Indian viewers were agitated due to the fact that the Indian flag was near her feet at the bottom of her saree. Owing to the disrespect shown towards the Indian National flag, Mandira bedi and the designer Satya Paul were accused and a complaint was filed against them.
Mandira Bedi has also acted in few films beginning with Yash Chopra’s ‘Dilwale DUlhaniya Le Jayenge’ alongside Shahrukh khan, Kajol, Anupam Kher and Amrish Puri. She has also appeared in supporting roles in ‘Shaadi ka Ladoo’, ‘Dus Kahaniyan’ and ‘Meerabai Not Out’. Mandira Bedi was been featured on the cover of magazines like Maxim. She recently hosted the Miss India event alongside co-actor Rohit Roy.
Mandira Bedi also participated in the celebrity reality show ‘Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi’ hosted by Akshay Kumar aired on Colors channel. She was eliminated on the ninth day; Anushka Manchanda was declared the winner.
