The Mirror or Shisha Embroidery

Mirror embroidery originated in Persia in around 13 th century. The craftsmen have used this kind of embroidery along with a suitable type of stitches to enhance the beauty of the garment. The mirror embroidery was also called shisha embroidery; the term shisha is a Hindi word for mirror. Earlier, the glass mirror material or the shisha were used to decorate the curtains, household shrines, torans or the doorways hangings and cloth wrapping. The next type of shisha is the embroidery glass or the machine-cut glass. The last types of shisha are the sequin shisha which is actually a large flat sequin. This type of mirror is having a flat and thin shaped glass and having a hole at one side but the hole is covered with the stitches. The glasses used in mirror embroidery have are either triangular, square, round, oval or polygonal shapes.


The art of designing the fabric by mirror embroidery will give an impressive and unique appearance of the clothes.
