Nagarjuna, originally named Akkineni Nagarjuna is a famed Indian actor turned producer who has starred in several blockbuster Telugu and Hindi films. Nagarjuna has been honored with several awards including the prestigious National Film Award. Nagarjuna was born on 29 August 1959 to notable Tollywood actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao in Chennai and later moved to Hyderabad where he completed his high school. A graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Nagarjuna obtained his MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Nagarjuna first appeared as a child artist in ‘Sudigundalu’ and made his adult debut in ‘Vikram’, the remake of Subhash Ghai’s superhit Bollywood film ‘Hero’ starring Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Sheshadri. Nagarjuna’s performance earned positive reviews and he starred in several blockbuster films like Dasari Narayana Rao’s ‘Majnu’ opposite Rajani, K. Raghavendra Rao’s ‘Aakhari Poratam’ opposite Sridevi, Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Shiva’ opposite Amala, Mani Ratnam’s Geethanjali opposite Girija Shettar, Priyadarshan’s ‘Nirnayam’ opposite Amala, Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Antham’ opposite Urmila Matondkar, Mukul S Anand’s ‘Khuda Gawah’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Sridevi, Shiva Nageswara Rao’s ‘Sisindri’ alongside Tabu and Pooja Batra.

Nagarjuna played the lead role in superhit comedy ‘Hello Brother’ directed by E.V.V. Satyanarayana. The film also starred Soundarya, Ramya Krishna and Rambha. ‘Hello Brother’ was remade into Hindi as ‘Judwaa’ starring Salman Khan, Karishma Kapoor and Rambha. Nagarjuna produced the blockbuster film ‘Ninne Pelladutha’ that won the National Film Award - Best Feature Film. Nagarjuna won the coveted National Film Award for Special Jury Award for ‘Annamayya’ directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. The film also starred Ramya Krishnan, Mohan Babu, and Roja and had a 100 day run in forty two centres.
In the meanwhile, Nagarjuna appeared in Bollywood films such as Mahesh Bhatt’s superhit crime drama ‘Criminal’ alongside Manisha Koirala, Ramya Krishnan, Nassar and Gulshan Grover, critically acclaimed ‘Zakhm’ also starring Ajay Devgan, Pooja Bhatt, Sonali Bendre and Kunal Khemu, multistarrer action film ‘Angaaray’ alongside Akshay Kumar, Pooja Bhatt, Sonali Bendre and Paresh Rawal.
Nagarjuna starred alongside Prabhu Deva, Shriya Saran, and Gracy Singh in Dasaradh’s directorial debut ‘Santosham’, J.P.Dutta’s war based film ‘LOC Kargil’ and Puri Jagannadh’s mega hit ‘Shivamani’ co-starring Asin Thottumkal, Rakshitha and Prakash Raj. During the last few years, Nagarjuna has become extremely selective about his films and characters thar he portrays. However he still is the most popular Tollywood star with riveting performances in blockbuster films like Raghava Lawrence’s ‘Mass’ alongside Jyothika and Charmme Kaur, V.N. Aditya’s ‘Nenunnanu’ alongside Shriya Saran and Arti Agarwal, Puri Jagannadh’s ‘Super’ co-starring Ayesha Takia, Sonu Sood and Anushka Shetty, V.N. Nagarjuna gave a breakthrough performance in K. Raghavendra Rao’s epic film ‘Sri Ramadasu’, also starring Sneha, Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Nassar and Nagendra Babu. The film that had a 100 day run in over sixty seven centres, also won several awards including the Nandi Award for Akkineni Award for best home-viewing feature film and Nandi Award for Best Actor for Nagarjuna. Nagarjuna continued the success stride with Raghava Lawrence’s ‘Don’ opposite Anushka Shetty, A. Karunakaran’s ‘Krishnarjuna’ opposite Mamta Mohandas, Sreenu Vaitla’s ‘King’ opposite Trisha Krishnan and Kiran Kumar’s ‘Kedi’ opposite Mamta Mohandas. Nagarjuna is presently shooting for Radha Mohan’s ‘Gaganam, supposedly based on the hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814. The film is expected to hit the screen in a couple of months.
