Nayantara is a ravishing Indian actress who appears prominently in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. Nayantara is famed for award winning performances in Tamil films ‘Billa’ and ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’. Nayantara was born as Diana Mariam Kurian on November 18, 1984 in Bangalore. A Syrian Christian by birth, Nayantara is a native of Tiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district. After completing her schooling from Balikamadom High School, Thiruvalla, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in English literature from Marthoma College in Thiruvalla.

Nayantara began her career in Malayalam films and later moved to Tamil and Telugu cinema. She was first seen in Sathyan Anthikkad’s 2003 release Malayalam film ‘Manassinakkare’ opposite Jayaram. Nayantara received the Asianet Award for Best Female New Face of the Year for her debut film. She next appeared in Fazil’s ‘Vismayathumbathu’ alongside Mohanlal and Mukesh; the film was supposedly inspired from the novel ‘If Only It Were True’. She again paired with Mohanlal in the 2004 release ‘Natturajavu’ directed by Antony Perumbavoor.

Telugu Film Star Nayantara

Nayantara made her Tamil debut in the year 2005 in Hari’s smash hit film ‘Ayya’ alongside Sarath Kumar, Prakash Raj, Napoleon and Vadivelu. Her next Tamil film ‘Chandramukhi’ was a huge commercial success. The paranormal thriller drama ‘Chandramukhi’ was directed by P Vasu and starred Rajnikanth, Prabhu Ganesan, Jyothika Saravanan and Nayantara in lead roles. ‘Chandramukhi’ was the Tamil version of Malayalam film ‘Manichithrathazhu’. It was later made into Hindi by Priyadarshan as ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ starring Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Shiny Ahuja and Amisha Patel. The film has also been remade in Kannada as ‘Aaptamitra’ and ‘Rajmohol’ in Bengali.

Nayantara

Nayantara was next seen playing the female lead opposite Mammootty in Pramod Pappan’s ‘Thaskara Veeran’ and Kamal’s ‘Rappakal’. Nayantara was seen in a supporting role alongside Surya Sivakumar and Asin in A. R. Murugadoss’s blockbuster hit ‘Ghajini’ released in the year 2005. The film is said to be inspired from Christopher Nolan's Hollywood flick ‘Memento’. ‘Ghajini’ was remade into Hindi with the same title starring Aamir Khan, Asin and Jiah Khan in lead roles.

Nayantara bowled her audiences with a peppy item dance sequence ‘Kodambakkam Area’ featured in Perarasu’s superhit Tamil film ‘Sivakasi’ starring Joseph Vijay and Asin in lead roles. Nayantara plunged into Telugu film industry in the year 2006 with V.V. Vinayak’s ‘Lakshmi’ alongside Venkatesh and Charmy Kaur followed by V.N. Aditya’s ‘Boss’ alongside Akkineni Nagarjuna, Poonam Bajwa, and Shriya Saran.

Simultaneously she also starred in Tamil films like Thamilvaanan’s ‘Kalvanin Kadhali’, T. R. Silambarasan’s ‘Vallavan’, Sarath Kumar’s ‘Thalaimagan’ and S.P.Jananathan’s ‘E’. Nayantara also worked in Telugu mega hits like ‘Yogi’ opposite Prabhas and ‘Dubai Seenu’ opposite Ravi Teja. She was seen in a sensational dance number ‘Balleilakka’ in the tamil blockbuster ‘Sivaji: The Boss’.

Nayantara’s exemplary performance was seen in Tamil films ‘Billa’ and ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’. She received the Vijay Award for Favourite Heroine for both the films and was nominated at the Filmfare awards for ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’. Billa was a Tamil action film directed by Vishnuvardhan and starring Ajith Kumar as the male protagonist. On the other hand, Mithran Jawahar ‘s ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini ‘ was a Tamil family drama film starring Dhanush and Nayantara. Nayantara has appeared in several Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films since then and is considered as one of the best Tollywood actresses today. She is presently working on three films, each in Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.
