Neetu Chandra was born on June 20, 1977 in Patna, Bihar. She attended the Notre Dame Academy, Patna and aspired to become a model. Her mother Neera supported her throughout the reluctance by her businessman father. Neetu Chandra graduated from the IP College, University of Delhi. Besides being a brilliant student, Neetu was extremely good at sports.
Neetu Chandra earned a black belt in Taekwondo and represented India at the International Taekwondo Championship at Hong Kong in 1996. She won a Silver Medal in Taek-won-do at the national games. Neetu Chandra represented India at the World Korfball Championship in 1995 in New Delhi at a tender age of eleven.
After completing her graduation, Neetu appeared in many print and TV advertisements as well as music videos. However this charismatic beauty was noticed by bollywood filmmakers and she landed with the female lead opposite Akshay Kumar in ‘Garam Masala’. ‘Garam Masala’ was directed by ace filmmaker Priyadarshan and starred Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Rimi Sen and Neha Dhupia alongside Neetu Chandra.
Neetu Chandra was next seen in a Telugu superhit film ‘Godavari’ directed by Sekhar Kammula. Neetu Chandra played the supporting role alongside tollywood stars Sumanth and Kamalinee Mukherjee. In the year 2007, she got an opportunity to work with the acclaimed directormadhur Bhandarkar in ‘Traffic Signal’. The film also starred Kunal Khemu, Sudhir Mishra, Konkona sEn Sharma and Rnvir Shorey. The film won accolades and received two National Film Awards, including Best Director and Best Make-up Artist.
Neetu Chandra was appreciated for her realistic portrayal of Sonal, the love interest of the male lead played by Abhay Deol in ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’. The film earned huge appreciatuion and received the Best Popular Film Award at National Film Awards along with three Filmfare award, one IIFA award and one Star Screen Award.
Neetu Chandra was next seen in multistarrer films like ‘One Two Three’, ‘Mumbai Cutting’ and ‘Rann’. Neetu Chandra appeared in Jeevitha’s Telugu film ‘Satyameva Jayathe’ alongside Dr. Rajasekhar, Shivaji and Sai Kiran. She paired opposite R. Madhavan in the superhit Tamil horror drama film ‘Yavarum Nalam’ that was later remade into Hindi as ‘13B’. She also appeared alongside Vishal Krishna, Sarah-Jane Dias and Tanushree Dutta in the Tamil romantic comedy film ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’.
Neetu Chandra was recently seen in Jag MUndhra’s psycho thriller ‘Apartment’, supposed to be inspired from the Hollywood flick ‘Single White Female’ starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh. ‘Apartment’ features Neetu Chandra, Tanushree Dutta, Anupam Kher and Rohit Roy in pivotal roles. Neetu also appeared in Raj Kanwar’s family drama ‘Sadiyan’ alongside veteran actors like Rishi Kapoor, Hema Malini and Rekha. ‘Sadiyan’ also marked the launch of Shatrughan SInha’s son Luv Sinha’s entry to bollywood.
Neetu cHandra’s forthcoming films include ‘No Problem’, ‘Love Jaisa Kuch’, ‘Khusar Prasad ke Bhoot’ and a Tamil film ‘Yuddham Sei’. Neetu Chandra was also approached by 7Seas Technologies to develop a 3D mobile game named Neetu- The Alien Killer. She has recently been signed as the brand ambassador of the jewelry giant, Geetanjali and Mysore Sandal Soap.
