Padmini Kolhapure is a well known Indian actress hailing from a Maharashtrian Konkani family. Padmini was born on 1st November 1965 to middle class parents in Maharashtra. Her father, a classical singer struggled enormously to support the family while her mother held a job with the Airlines.

Padmini is the niece of legendary singers Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle and she along with her sister Shivangi chorused in a number of songs. Her sister Shivangi is married to Bollywood actor Shakti Kapoor known for his comic and villainous performances. Padmini Kolhapure started acting at an age of seven when she appeared in Dev Anand’s ‘Ishq Ishq Ishq’ as a child artist. She was later seen in films like ‘Dream girl’, ‘Zindagi’ and ‘Saajan Bina Suhagan’.
Padmini Kolhapure was appreciated for her impressive portrayal of the younger version of Zeenat Aman in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ released in the year 1977. Though the film could not do well at the box office, it is now considered as an impeccable piece of art. Padmini next starred in a B R Chopra’s ‘Insaaf ka Tarazu’, a remake of 1976 Hollywood film ‘Lipstick’. Padmini portrayed the character of a rape victim and the younger sister of the female lead Zeenat Aman. The film became a box office success and Padmini received the coveted Filmfare Best supporting Actress Award for her effective performance.

At an age of fifteen, Padmini appeared as the female lead in Nasir Hussain's Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai opposite Rishi Kapoor. Her pioneering role came in Raj Kapoor’s ‘Prem Rog’ also starring Rishi Kapoor. An unconventional love story, ‘Prem Rog’ became a mega success and Padmini Kolhapure received her first Filmfare Best actress Award. In the same year, she also won a special acting award for ‘Ahista Ahista ‘.
The extremely talented actress was known for her meticulousness that made her a favorite among the top line filmmakers in Bollywood. She continued the stride of success by starring in successful films like Subhash Ghai’s ‘Vidhaata’ alongside veteran actors Dilip Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Sanjeev Kumar and Sanjay Dutt, Sawan Kumar Tak’s ‘Souten’ alongside Rajesh Khanna and Tina Munim, Anil Kapoor’s debut film ‘Who Saat Din’ and Vijay Sadanah’s romantic blockbuster ‘Pyar Jhukta Nahin’ opposite Mithun Chakraborty.
During the filming of ‘Aisa Pyar Kahan’, Padmini Kolhapure fell in love with film producer Pradeep Sharma, popularly known as Tutu Sharma. The two got married and Padmini waved goodbye to bollywood at an age of 21. The couple is blessed with a son named Priyank who aspires to be an actor just like his mother.
Padmini Kolhapure made a comeback to cinema with Marathi films ‘Manthan’ and ‘Chimnee Pakhra’. ‘Chimnee Pakhra’ became a smash hit and Padmini received the Screen Best Actress Award – Marathi. Padmini was also seen in a couple of Hindi films including paranormal thriller ‘Eight’ alongside Gulshan Grover. Padmini Kolhapure has also acted in a few stage plays like ‘Kaash’ with Himani Shivpuri, ‘Abhi to main jawan hun’ with Suraj Thapar, Liliput and Naveen Bawe and ‘Aashman se gire khajur pe atke’ with Shakti Kapoor and Naveen Bawe.
Padmini Kolhapure was honored with the Achiever Award at the coveted Kalakar Awards in the year 2003.
