Parvin Dabas
Parvin Dabbas is a well known Indian model turned actor turned producer who has appeared in critically acclaimed films like ‘Monsoon Wedding’, ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’ and ‘Khosla ka Ghosla’. Parvin was recently seen in a supporting role in Karan Johar’s ‘My Name is Khan’ starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol in lead roles.

Parvin Dabbas was born as Parveen Dabas on July 12, 1974 in Delhi. He attended the Modern School Vasant Vihar, New Delhi and then graduated from Hans Raj College, Delhi University. Parvin Dabbas turned to modeling and consequently appeared in several commercials, ramp shows and music videos.
Parvin Dabbas made his debut in a supporting role in ‘Dillagi’ alongside Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Urmila Matondkar. Released in the year 1999, ‘Dillagi’ was Sunny Deol’s directorial debut and was an average success at the box office. Parvin was later seen in Mira Nair’s acclaimed film ‘Monsoon Wedding’. The film starred an ensemble cast including Naseeruddin Shah, Lillete Dubey, Shefali Shah, Parvin Dabbas, Vasundhara Das, Vijay Raaz and Tillotama Shome.
The film won several award including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, British Independent Film Award, Canberra International Film Festival and Independent Spirit Awards. ‘Monsoon Wedding’ was also nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Language Film, Broadcast Film Critics Association Award, Chlotrudis Award for Best Cast, Chlotrudis Award for Best Director, European Film Award for Best Non-European Film and Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Parvin Dabbas starred in supporting roles in films like ‘The Perfect Husband’, ‘Muskaan’, ‘Wrong Number’, ‘Yeh Hai Zindagi’, ‘Kuch Meetha Ho Jaaye’ and ‘With Luv... Tumhara’ etc. Parvin Dabbas won accolades for his performance in critically acclaimed films like Johny Barua’s ‘Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara’ alongside Anupam Kher and Urmila Matondkar and Dibakar Banerjee’s‘Khosla ka Ghosla’ alongside Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Vinay Pathak and Ranvir Shorey. Parvin Dabbas’s also played a pivotal role in Shamim Sarif’s ‘The World Unseen’ starring Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth, Rajaatesh Nayar’s ‘Sirf’ alongside Kay Kay Menon, Manisha Koirala, Ranvir Shorey and Sonali Kulkarni and Arindam Nandy’s ‘Via Darjeeling’ alongside Kay Kay Menon, Sonali Kulkarni, Vinay Pathak, Sandhya Mridul and Rajat Kapoor. Parvin Dabbas played a significant role in Anil Sharma’s ‘The Hero: Love Story of a Spy’ alongside Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta and Priyanka Chopra. The film became the third highest grossing film of the year. Parvin Dabbas starred in a significant role in Karan Johar’s ‘My Name Is Khan’ alongside Shahrukh Khan and Kajol. The film was a joint production of Hiroo Yash Johar and Gauri Khan under the banner Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment. Parvin Dabbas married well known actress Preeti Jhangiani in the year 2008 in a private ceremony at Hyatt Regency in Mumbai. Preeti Jhangiani was seen in films like ‘Mohabbatein’ and ‘Awara Paagal Deewana’. Moreover Parvin Dabbas along with her wife Preeti Jhangiani has recently started a production company named Very Fishy Films. Their first film will be directed by Parvin Dabas himself and is supposedly titled ‘Sahi Dhande Galat Bande’. An action film with an interesting political twist, it may be screened at the Toronto Film Festival.
