Payal Rohtagi is an Indian actress and a former model. Payal was born on 9 November 1984 to Veena Rohtagi and Shashank Rohatgi in Hyderabad. She was raised in Ahmedabad where she earned her computer science engineering degree from L. D. College of Engineering. A complete fitness freak, Payal Rohtagi got inclined towards the Hindi film industry after participating in the Miss India beauty pageant in 2000 where she was among the top five finalists.

She was declared the winner of Miss Tourism World contest in 2001. Payal soon appeared in a number of TV commercials for popular brands like Cadbury Temptations, Amul, Nirma, Jaguar Bath Panel, Nescafe Cold Coffee, LG Refrigerator, Britannia, Dabur Amla, Wright Pen and Gits Food Mix. She also starred in the music videos of famed Indian band Silk Route and singer KK. Payal has also featured with legendary Amitabh Bachchan in the TV commercial for Eveready battery and alongside Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag in Dabur's Lal Dantmanjan ad film, both directed by ace ad filmmaker Pardeep Sarkar.
Payal made her bollywood with the 2002 release ‘Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai’ directed by Harry bAweja. Supposedly a remake of Hollywood film, ‘American Pie’, ‘Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai’ bombed at the box office. She later featured in a few flop Hindi films like ‘Ek Se Mera Kya Hoga’, ‘Plan’ ‘Police Force’ and ‘Rakht’.
She was appreciated for her performance in Abbas Mustan’s ’36 China Town’ also starring Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Akshaye Khanna, Isha Koppikar and Paresh Rawal. She gained huge popularity for her item dance number ‘O Sikander’ featured in Madhur Bhandarker’s critically acclaimed film ‘corporate’. Payal was later seen in supporting roles and cameos in films like Priyadarshan’s ‘Dhol’, Sajid Khan’s ‘Heyy Babby’ and Anil Sharma’s ‘Dil Kabaddi’ and ‘Ugly Aur Pagli’.
Based on Woody Allen's ‘Husbands and Wives’, ‘Dil Kabaddi’ was set in contemporary locations in Mumbai. The film starred Irrfan Khan, Rahul Bose, Konkona Sen Sharma, Soha Ali Khan, Payal Rohatgi and Rahul Khanna in lead roles.
Payal Rohatgi supports the rehabilitation of drugs addicts and alcoholics and displayed her endeavour to work for such causes on WORLD ANTI DRUGS DAY last year. She is also an active supporter of the NGO Jeevan Dhara in Mumbai.
Payal has appeared on the ‘Bigg Boss- season 2’ celebrity reality show along with fellow contestants like Ahsaan Quershi, Rahul Mahajan, Monika Bedi, Sambhavna Seth, Debojit Saha, Diana Hayden, Ashutosh Kaushik, among others. Her relationship with Rahul Mahajan became the talk of the town; however she later termed her relationship with Rahul as a seven year old friendship. She was evicted in the eighth week after facing public vote. However Payal and Sambhavna returned to Bigg Boss as guests in the 12th week.
She also made TV appearances in ‘Comedy circus - Chinchpokli to China’ on Sony TV and Ndtv Imagine’s ‘Raaz Pichle janam ka’.She alleged Rahul Mahajan of offering her an amount of Rs. 1 crore to become a part of his Swayamvar- ‘Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jaayega’ recently aired on NDTV Imagine. Payal Rohtagi was honored by International Creative arts society in Ahmedabad, Gujarat for excellence in the field of arts.
