Pooja Bhatt is a famed Bollywood actress turned producer- director. Pooja Bhatt belongs to the influential Bhatt family of the film industry known for making contemporary new age films. Pooja Bhatt was born on 24 February 1972 to Mahesh Bhatt and Kiran Bhatt. Her father later married actress and director Soni Razdan. Pooja has three siblings, brother Rahul Bhatt and two half sisters, Shaheen and Alia.

Pooja was always interested in cinema owing to her filmy background, her father Mahesh Bhatt is a well known director. Her uncle Mukesh Bhatt is a film producer while cousin Mohit Suri is a film screenwriter and director. The popular bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi is also Pooja Bhatt’s cousin. Pooja Bhatt is married to Manish Makhija, a former Channel V VJ and Mumbai-based restaurateur. He is known for his popular shows like ‘The Udham Singh Show’ on Channel V and the recent ‘Cash Cab – Meter Chalu Hai’ aired on UTV Bindaas.
Pooja has appeared in many bollywood films of different genres mostly directed and produced by her father Mahesh Bhatt. She was first seen in the 1989 release ‘Daddy’ alongside Anupam Kher and Manohar Singh. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Mukesh Bhatt, the film won two Filmfare Awards in the Best Performance- Critics Choice and Best Dialogue category. The film also starred Pooja’s step mother Soni Razdan.

Pooja Bhatt was next seen in the 1991 superhit romantic comedy ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’ opposite Aamir Khan. The film was supposedly a remake of Frank Capra’s popular 1934 Hollywood film ‘It Happened One Night’. ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’ was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by late Gulshan Kumar and also starred Anupam Kher, Deepak Tijori and Tiku Talsania in pivotal roles. Pooja Bhatt was appreciated for her performance in the 1991 blockbuster ‘Sadak’ opposite Sanjay Dutt. The film also won rave reviews for its soundtrack. Pooja Bhatt won the Filmfare Best Female Debut and Lux Face of the Year Awards in the year 1991.
Poja bHatt starred opposite Rahul Roy in ‘Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee’ that was released on Zee TV in 1993. Her breakthrough performance was seen in ‘Tamanna’ alongside Paresh Rawal and Sharad Kapoor. She won immense critical acclaim for her performance in the award winning film ‘Zakhm’. The film won the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration in the year 1999. Pooja has also worked in mainstream Bollywood films like ‘Chahat’ opposite Shahrukh Khan and the contemporary parallel cinema English film ‘Everybody Says I'm Fine!’.
Pooja Bhatt has produced a few films like ‘Tamanna’, ‘Dushman’, ‘Zakhm’, ‘Sur’, ‘Jism’, ‘Paap’, ‘Vaada’, ‘Rog’ and ‘Holiday’. She also worked as a production designer for ‘Jism’, ‘Paap’ and ‘Rog’.
Pooja Bhatt ventured into film direction with ‘Paap’ starring John Abraham and Udita Goswami, the film was inspired from Harrison Ford- Kelly McGillis starrer ‘Witness’. Pooja Bhatt was nominated for the Popular Award for Best debuting Director for ‘Paap’. She next directed ‘Holiday’ starring Dino Morea and Onjolee Nair and ‘Dhokha’ starring Muzammil Ibrahim and Tulip Joshi. Her forthcoming film ‘Kajraare’ features Himesh Reshammiya, new comer Mona Liza and Amrita Singh in pivotal roles.
