Prabhu Deva
Popularly named as the Michael Jackson of India, Prabhu Deva is a renowned choreographer turned actor- director. Prabhu Deva predominantly works in Tamil films; however he has made significant contribution in Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam cinema as well. Preabhu Deva has won the highest number of awards as a choreographer including the prestigious National award. Prabhu Deva has made several superstars dance to his steps including Kamal Haasan, Prabhu Ganesan, Chiranjeevi, Sridevi, Rajnikanth, Mammooty, Jagapathi Babu, Sanjay Dutt, Nagma, Arvind Swamy, Manisha Koirala, Kajol, Anil Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Shahrukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Salman Khan, Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Jr. NTR, Bhoomika Chawla, Genelia D'Souza, Siddharth, Trisha Krishnan, Surya, Jyothika Saravanan, Priyanka Chopra, Isha Koppikar, Dileep and Nayantara.

Born as Prabhu Deva Sundaram on April 3, 1973 in Mysore, Prabhu Deva is the son of famed dance master Mugur Sundar, popularly known as Sundaram Master. Raised in grew up in Alwarpet, Chennai, Prabhu Deva received training in different dance forma including Bharatanatyam. Prabhu Deva has two brothers Raju Sundaram and Nagendra Prasad and both are well known choreographers in the South Indian film industry. Prabhu deva started choreographing in films in the year 1988 and went on to create the most mesmerizing dance sequences.

Prabhu Deva received the coveted National Film Award - Silver Lotus Award for Best Choreography for ‘Minsara Kanavu’ directed by Rajiv Menon. He also received a Star Acreen nomination for ‘Pukar’ starring Madhuri Dixit, Anil Kapoor and Namrata Shirodkar. His music video ‘Kalluri vaanil kaayndha nilaavo’ popularly known as Benny Lava appeared on the Heavy Metal documentary Global Metal and was also featured in The Colbert Report. Prabhu Deva was honored with the National Film Award for Best Choreography, Filmfare Best Choreography Award and Star Screen Award for Best Choreography for Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Lakshya’. He again won the Filmfare Best Choreography Award for the Telugu film ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’ that he also directed.

After appearing in dance sequences in Tamil films like ‘Agni Nakshatram’, ‘Idhayam’, ‘ Suriyan’, ‘Gentleman’ and ‘ Walter Vetrivel’, Prabhu Deva made his acting debut in ‘Indhu’ opposite Roja and was later seen in films like ‘Kadhalan’ opposite Nagma, ‘Raasaiyya’, ‘Mr. Romeo’ opposite Shilpa Shetty, ‘Love Birds’ opposite Nagma, ‘V.I.P’ opposite Simran Bagga, ‘Kaathala Kaathala’ alongside Kamal Hassan, Prabhudeva, Rambha, Soundarya, Cochin Haneefa. Prabhu also starred in Guinness World Record-winning Tamil comedy-drama film ‘Suyamvaram’ also starring Sathyaraj, Prabhu Ganesan, Karthik Muthuraman, Abbas, Urvashi, Kushboo Sundar, Rambha and Roja Selvamani. He played a significant role in Raghava Lawrence’s ‘Style’ alongside Raghava Lawrence himself, Charmme Kaur, Raja and Kamalinee Mukherjee. Prabhu Deva ventured into film direction with the 2005 release ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’ starring Siddharth and Trisha Krishnan. The film won eight Filmfare awards, one Santhosham award and five Nandi Awards. He later directed ‘Pournami’ starring Prabhas, Trisha Krishnan, Charmy Kaur, Rahul Dev and Sindhu Tolani, blockbuster ‘Pokkiri’ starring Vijay, Asin Thottumkal and Prakash Raj, ‘Shankar Dada Zindabad’ starring Chiranjeevi, Srikanth and Karishma Kotak and ‘Villu’ starring Joseph Vijay, Nayanthara and Prakash Raj. Prabhu Deva received rave reviews for his Hindi directorial debut ‘Wanted’ released in 2009. ‘Wanted’ starred Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia, Vinod Khanna, Mahesh Majrekar and Prakash Raj. Prabhu Deva appeared in a song sequence along with Anil Kapoor and Govinda in ‘Wanted’. He is currently directing Tamil film ‘Ich’ starring Jayam Ravi and Hansika Motwani and will start working on ‘Wanted 2’. Prabhu Deva was earlier married to Latha and is the father of two children. However the two are now divorced and it is rumored that Prabhu deva is dating actress Nayantara known for films like ‘Manassinakkare’, ‘Billa’ and ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’. The two met on the sets of ‘Villu’ that was directed by Prabhu Deva and starred Nayantara as the female lead.
