Prithviraj Sukumaran is a famed Indian actor who though predominantly appears in Malayalam films but has also worked in a few Tamil and Telugu movies. Prithiraj is all the rage among cinema buffs owing to its fascinatingly good looks and a impactful performances. Prithviraj has been applauded for his acting in films like ‘Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum’, ‘Chakram’, ‘Akale’, ‘Classmates’, ‘Vaasthavam’, ‘Thalappavu’ and ‘Thirakkatha’.

Prithivraj was born on October 16, 1982 to renowned Malayalam actor Sukumaran and Mallika in Trivandrum. Prithviraj’s father Sukumaran is the recipient of Kerala State Film Awards for Bandhanam directed by M. T. Vasudevan Nair. Prithviraj is the brother of Indrajith Sukumaran who has starred in several Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam films. Prithviraj attended the St. Mary's School Poojappura, Sainik School Kazhakoottam and Bharathiya Vidya Bhavan, Thiruvananthapuram. Later he moved to Australia to pursue his graduation in IT from the the University of Tasmania.

It was during that time that he received Renjith’s offer to play the lead in Malayalam film ‘Nandanam’. Thus he dropped out of his IT course to pursue a full time career in films. ‘Nandanam’ was eventually released in the year 2002 and though it was not a huge success but Prithviraj became a well known face. He was next seen in A K Sajan’s ‘Stop Violence’ alongside Vijayaraghavan and Chandra Lakshman and Bhadran’s ‘Vellithira’ opposite Navya Nair.

Pritviraj won the Film Critics Award for Best Actor for ‘Meerayude Dukhavum Muthuvinte Swapnavum’ directed by Vinayan. His performance in Chandrahaasan’s ‘Chakram’ alongside Meera Jasmine and Chandra Lakshman fetched him another Film Critics Award for Best Actor. Prithviraj collaborated with Vinayan in ‘Sathyam’ opposite Priyamani and ‘Athbhutha Dweepu’ opposite Mallika Kapoor. While ‘Sathyam’ was dubbed into Tamil as ‘Satya’, ‘Athbhutha Dweepu’ was released as ‘Theevu’ in Tamil.

Prithviraj’s ‘Akale’ received the prestigious National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam. Directed by Shyamaprasad, ‘Akale’ was inspired from Tennessee Williams’American classic play ‘Glass Menagerie’. ‘Akale’ starred established actors like Prithviraj, Sheela and Geetu Mohandas. Pritviraj received the Thikkurushi Award for Best Actor Mathrubhumi Special Jury Award for ‘Akale’.

Prithviraj joined the league of top line Indian actors and was honored with Mathrubhumi - PSS Most Popular Actor Award sponsored by Federal Bank, Sathyan Memorial Award for Best Actor and Idea - Mathrubhumi - Amrita Film Award for 'Youth Icon of the Year'. Prithviraj won the prestigious Kerala State Film Award for his outstanding performance in M Padmakumar’s critically acclaimed film ‘Vaasthavam’.

Prithviraj plunged into tamil films with ‘Kana Kandaen’ alongside Srikanth and Gopika. The success of ‘Kana Kandaen’ was followed by hit Tamil films like ‘Parijatham’, ‘Mozhi’, ‘Vellitherai’ and the most recent ‘Ninaithale Inikkum’. Prithviraj has also starred in Manmohan’s Telugu cop film ‘Police Police’ Srikanth, Kamalini Mukherjee and Sanjana. Prithivraj won accolades for his performance in Madhupal’s ‘Thalappavu’ set in the backdrop of naxalite era of the seventies in Kerala. He teamed with Renjith in the romantic drama film ‘Thirakkatha’ also sarring Priyamani and Anoop Menon. Prithviraj received the Jai Hind TV Award for Best Actor for ‘Thalappavu’ and ‘Thirakkatha’ followed by Asianet Film Award for 'Youth Icon of the Year’ in 2009.

Prthivraj’s recent releases ‘Pokkiri Raja’ in Malayalam co-starring Mammootty and Shriya Saran and Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film ‘Raavanan’ alongside Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are blockbuster hits. ‘Raavanan’ was made in Hindi ‘Raavan’ starring Abhishek bAchchan, Vikram and Aishwarya Rai while its Telugu version was released as ‘Villain’.
