Purab Kohli is a popular Indian actor who recently received a Special Jury Mention at the Filmfare Awards for his performance in award winning film ‘Rock On’. Purab Kohli is also a former Channel V VJ and a model. Purab Kohali is usually seen in contemporary films in supporting but significant roles. Purab Kohli is married to theatre actress Yamini Namjoshi, whom he dated for six years before finally tying the knot in 2007. Award winning filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is Purab Kohli’s uncle.

Purab Kohli started his acting career with ZEE TV’s popular teen show titled ‘Hip Hip Hurray’ and later appeared as a VJ on Channel V. Purab Kohli has also modeled for some designers and featured in advertisement commercials for brands like Colgate, Pizza Hut, Compaq Presario, Amaron Batteries and Castrol, among others.
Purab Kohli first appeared on the silver screen in Raja Menon’s 2003 release romantic comedy ‘Bas Yun Hi’ opposite versatile actress Nandia Das. The light and offbeat film was appreciated by the multiplex audiences and also received a decent rating from the critics. Purab next starred alongside Susmita Sen, J D Chakravarty and Peeya Rai Choudhary in Ram Gopal Varma’s paranormal thriller ‘Vaastu Shastra’.
Purab received rave reviews for his performance in Onir’s ‘My Brother Nikhil’ based on the social stigma of HIV/AIDS. ‘My Brother Nikhil’ also starred established actors like Juhi Chawla, Sanjay Suri, Victor Banerjee and Lilette Dubey. Purab Kohli played the character of the gay lover of the protagonist played by Sanjay Suri. The film was well received by the audiences and was honored at many film festivals. Purab Kohli played a pivotal role in Mohit Suri’s ‘Woh Lamhe’ starring Shiney Ahuja and Kangana Ranaut. Produced by Mahesh Bhatt, ‘Who Lamhe’ was supposedly based on the life of late actress Parveen Babi, her relationship with Mahesh Bhatt and her struggle with schizophrenia. Purab again teamed with the Bhatt camp and Mohit Suri in ‘Awaarapan’, wherein he played a negative role. However Purab tasted commercial success in Abhishek Kapoor’s musical drama ‘Rock On’. Released in the year 2008, ‘Rock On’ was based on the story of ‘Rock On’ not only became a commercial success, but its music earned immense popularity among the young audiences that the cast was featured on the cover page of September 2008 issue of Rolling Stones (India). ‘Rock On’ was honored with the prestigious National Film Award and it also received seven Filmfare Awards, four IIFA Awards and six Star Screen Awards. Purab Kohli also earned a Special Jury Mention at the Filmfare Awards for ‘Rock On’. Purab Kohli is currently working on a couple of Bollywood projects including Rajat Kapoor’s ‘Fatso’ alongside Ranvir Shorey and Gul Panag, Onir’s ‘I Am’ alongside Juhi Chawla, Rahul Bose and Sanjay Suri, Saeed Akhtar Mirza’s ‘Ek Tho Chance’ opposite Amrita Arora.
