Rahul Bose is an award winning Indian actor who predominantly appears in contemporary parallel cinema films. Besides being an actor, Rahul Bose is also a successful screenwriter, director, social activist, and rugby union player. Rahul Bose has been honored with the Idea International Indian Film Academy Green Award in 2009.
Rahul Bose recently received the Green Globe Foundation Award for Extraordinary Work by a Public Figure. Rahul Bose is known for his humanitarian efforts – he is the founder of anti-discrimination NGO and also participated in the relief efforts after the Tsunami disaster in 2004. Rahul Bose is a former member of Orange Indian Rugby Team, India’s international rugby team.

Rahul Bose was born on 27 July, 1967 to Rupen and Kumud Bose in Kolkata and later moved to Mumbai. Rahul took keen interest in theatre and sports while he was a child. He was introduced to boxing and rugby by his mother and was also coached by former cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Saif Ali Khan’s father. Rahul Bose studied at Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and graduate from Sydenham College. He played on the college rugby team and also won various boxing championships. Rahul Bose started his career as a copy writer at Rediffusion, however he left his job at the ad agency to pursue a career in acting.
Rahul Bose made his cinematic debut with Dev Benegal’s 19994 release English film ‘English, August’. The film won the coveted National Award for Best Feature Film in English. He later appeared in the Television show ‘A Mouthful of Sky’ aired on Doordarshan. Rahul Bose soon became a popular name in the English arthouse cinema and appeared in acclaimed films like Kaizad Gustad’s ‘Bombay Boys’, Dev Benegal’s ‘Split Wide Open’, ‘Everybody Says I'm Fine!’, his first directorial venture, Aparna Sen’s ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer’ and ‘White Noise’.
Most of his films were screened at film festivals worldwide and won several awards. One of the most successful movies of his career was ‘Mr. and Mrs. Iyer’ opposite Konkona Sen Sharma. The film won four National Film Awards including the Golden Lotus Award for best direction, the Silver Lotus Awards for best actress, the best screenplay, and the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration.
Rahul Bose also starred in mainstream films like Govind Nihalani’s ‘Thakshak’, Sujoy Ghosh’s ‘Jhankaar Beats’, Anant Balani’s ‘Ek Din 24 Ghante’ and ‘Mumbai Matinee’, Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Chameli’, Khalid Mohammed’s ‘Silsialy’, Saket Chaudhary’s ‘Pyaar Ke Side Effects’, Kittu Saluja’s ‘Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii’, Samar Khan’s ‘Shaurya’, Sanjay Chhel’s ‘Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam’ and the most recent ‘Dil Kabaddi’ directed by Anil Sharma (Senior).
Rahul Bose has appeared in many other national Film Award winning films, namely ’15 Park Avenue’ alongside Shabana Azmi and Konkona Sen Sharma, Bengali film ‘Anuranan’ alongside Rituparna Sengupta and Raima Sen, Budhhadev Dasgupa’s ‘Kaalpurush’ and Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s ‘Antaheen’. Rahul was recently seen in films like ‘Tahaan’, winner of UNICEF Award, ‘Fired’ premiered at the Cannes Marché du Film and ‘The Japanese Wife’.
Rahul Bose has also directed ‘Everybody Says I'm Fine!’ and turned a scriptwriter for ‘The Whisperers’. He has also done playback singing for the award winning Bengali film ‘Anuranan’. Rahul Bose has received several awards for his performances and contribution to the society, including Youth Icon Award for Social Justice and Welfare, IBN Citizen Journalist Award, "Artiste for Change" Karmaveer Puraskaar award and The John Schlesinger Honorable Mention Award, among others.
