Rakesh Roshan was born as Rakesh Roshan Lal Nagrath on 6 September 1949 in Mumbai to notable Bollywood music director Roshan. Rakesh Roshan is married to actress Pinky and the couple is blessed with a daughter Sunaina married to businessman Mohan Nagar and son Hrithik Roshan married to Sanjay Khan’s daughter Suzzane. Hrithik Roshan is a well known Bollywood actor and has acted in his father’s superhit films like ‘Kaho Naa Pyar Hai‘, ‘Koi mil Gaya’ and ‘Kkrish’. Rakesh Roshan’s brother Rajesh Roshan is a famed music director and usually composes for Rakesh’s films.
Rakesh Roshan made his debut in T. Prakash Rao’s ‘Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani’ followed by blockbuster films like Ravi Tandon’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’ alongside Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s ‘Khoobsoorat’ alongside Ahok Kumar and Rekha, Basu Chatterjee’s ‘Khatta Meetha’ alongside Ashok Kumar, Pearl Padamsee and Bindiya Goswami, ‘Aap Ke Deewane’ alongside Rishi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Pran, Ashok Kumar and Tina Munim, ‘Kaamchor’ opposite Jaya Prada and ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ opposite Rekha.
During eighties, Rakesh Roshan ventured into film production and has produced several blockbuster films since then. He has directed films like ‘Khudgarz’ starring Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha, ‘Khoon Bhari Maang’ starring Rekha and Kabir Bedi, ‘Kishan Kanhaiya’, ‘Khel’ starring Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor, ‘King Uncle’ starring Jackie Shroff and Shahrukh Khan, ‘Koyla’ starring Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit, ‘Karan Arjun’ starring Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan and Kajol.
Rakesh Roshan launched his son Hrithik Roshan in his home production ‘Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai’, the film became a huge success and was included in the Limca Book of Records for winning the most number of awards in Bollywood. He later directed the science fiction film ‘Koi...Mil Gaya’ starring Hrithik Roshan, Priety Zinta and Rekha. The film became one of the top grossing film and won several awards including the coveted National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues, National Film Award for Best Special Effects and Best Choreography. The success of ‘Koi...Mil Gaya’ was followed by its sequel ‘Kkrish’ starring Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Rekha.

In the meanwhile, Rakesh Roshan also appeared in supporting roles in films like ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’ alongside Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala, ‘Aurat Aurat Aurat’ alongside Rekha and Vinod Mehra, ‘Koi...Mil Gaya’, ‘Om Shanti Om’ etc. Rakesh Roshan is expected to play a cameo in Tamil romantic film ‘Kaavalkaaran’ starring Joseph Vijay and Asin Thottumkal as the lead pair. Directed by Siddique, ‘Kaavalkaaran’ is supposedly the remake of Malayalam film ‘Bodyguard’.
Rakesh Roshan’s recent production ‘Kites’ starring his son Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori, Kangana Ranaut, and Kabir Bedi failed to please the audiences. Directed by Anurag Basu, ‘Kites’ had a exorbitant opening but could not sustain it for very long. Indian audiences could not relate to the film owing to a little use of Hindi as compared to English and Spanish. ‘Kites’ became the largest Bollywood release in overseas markets reached the North American weekend top ten while held the #5 position in the UK.
