Ranbir Kapoor is a popular Indian actor who joined the Indian film industry in 2007 with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Saawariya’. Ranbir Kapoor belongs to the fourth generation of the renowned Kapoor family of Bollywood. Grandson of the notable actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor, Ranbir was born on 28th September, 1982 in Mumbai. Ranbir Kapoor was highly influenced by his actor parents Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, the supercouple of 70s. Ranbir’s elder sister Riddhima is married to Bharat Sahni. Ranbir Kapoor’s cousins Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor are popular bollywood Indian actresses. Ranbir Kapoor dated actress Deepika Padukone for a couple of years before separating in October, 2009.

Ranbir Kapoor loves to spend time with family, friends and his pet dogs. His favorite pastimes include watching movies, playing xbox and writing. Ranbir loves sports and his favorite games are soccer, cricket and chess. He even represented his school soccer team at the district level. Ranbir’s favorite bollywood actors are father Rishi Kapoor, Akshay Khanna and Kajol, while he admires Justin Hoffman and Jennifer Connelly in Hollywood. Ranbir Kapoor attended the Bombay Scottish School and then HR College in Mumbai. Ranbir then went to New York and joined Lee Strasberg Institute to pursue a course in acting and direction. Ranbir also completed a course at the Visual School of Arts to gain some directorial experience.
Prior to playing the lead in ‘Saawariya’, Ranbir Kapoor alongwith co-star Sonam Kapoor assisted the famous director Sanjay Leela Bhansali in ‘Black’. ‘Black’ featured Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee and was a huge commercial as well as critical success of 2005. In 2007, Ranbir Kapoor was first seen in ‘Saawariya’ opposite Sonam Kapoor. Though the film could not fare well at the box office, Ranbir’s performance was highly appreciated. Ranbir’s next project was sIddharth Anand’s ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’- a romantic comedy released in 2008. The moderately successful movie also starred Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone and Minisha Lamba.

In 2009, Ranbir Kapoor appeared in three movies and all of them became commercial successes. Ayan Mukherji’s ‘Wake UP Sid’ featured Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen Sharma, the film earned huge critical and commercial success and Ranbir was nominated in the best actor category at all the major Indian film award ceremonies. Ranbir next appeared in romantic comedy ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ opposite Katrina Kaif that became a smash hit and one of the highest earners of the year. Ranbir Kapoor’s performance as a salesman was highly commended in Shimit Amin’s ‘Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year’. Though the movie could not become a commercial success, the film was critically acclaimed and received rave reviews. Ranbir Kapoor’s forthcoming movies include Prakash Jha's political drama ‘Rajneeti’ and Siddharth Anand's ‘Anjaana Anjaani’. Ranbir won the Filmfare Best Male Debut Award in 2008 and recently received the Filmfare Critics Award for the Best Performance in 2010. Ranbir was also honored with the Stardust Superstar of Tomorrow – Male for his riveting performance in 2010. Ranbir was declared as the entertainer of the year with NDTV Indian of the Year Award and FICCI Frames 2010 Excellence Awards, 2010.
