Rice Embroidery

Rice Embroidery- makes the design stunning and complete

When you see a large embroidery design like an attractive big flower or some monument in any fabric, the sharpness of the design will attract you to take a deeper look into the embroidery design. One of the reasons for the attractiveness of the design is the filler stitches used in the design, that filler design is the product of the rice embroidery. The effect produced by rice embroidery is such that it makes the design even more stunning and eye-catching in spite of the main embroidery of the design.

Now you would have understood the need for the presence of the rice embroidery in any bigger motifs. So we will have some deep in site about the rice embroidery. The basic thing we have to know before starting with the rice embroidery is the rice stitch, from name of the stitch it is understood that the appearance of the stitch will be in the shape of grain. Theappearance of the rice stitch makes the rice embroidery as the perfect choice for the filler design in flowers and big motifs.

Rice stitch is simple straight stitch which doesn’t have any pattern, as it is makes the stitch to orient in any random direction which gives the filler effect. So now comes the next part how to make this stitch in the fabric, which is very simple and uncomplicated to come up with the rice embroidery. As like running stitch pass the needle from the back of the fabric to the top of the fabric in a slightly inclined manner. Now repeat this running stitch at different angle and spread the running stitch all over the design which will in turn fill up the place. Asthe rice stitch implies the shape of the rice, which are slackly scattered over the design.

To get more understanding about this rice embroidery here is one simple example of a flower motif. First thing we have to do in any design is to trace the outline of the design on the fabric. The tracing can be done directly by placing the fabric over the design or by using a butter paper. So after sketching the outline of the flower, fill up the centre part of the flower with rice stitch and slowly spread the rice stitch all over the centre part of the flower.

Now moving to the petal of the flower, the perfect stitch is the satin ribbon stitch which gives more shining look to the petal of the flower. It is clear that the stem of the flower needs curling effect, so decorate the steam of the flower with rope stitch. Itmakes the outline of the flower in a lucid manner.

It is very clear from the above discussion without the rice embroidery the flower or any big motif design is incomplete. This rice stitch not only act as a filler stitch, it also gives the three dimensional effect to the flower design and also holds the base of the fabric very strongly, because rice stitch are straight stitch oriented in random directions.
