Rishi Kapoor is an eminent Indian actor known for blockbuster films like ‘Mera Naam Joker’, ‘Bobby’, ‘Karz’, ‘Kabhi Kabhi’, ‘Chandni’, among others. Rishi Kapoor won the prestigious National Award for his performance as a child artist in his father’s acclaimed film ‘Mera Naam Joker’.
Rishi Kapoor was born on September 4, 1952 in Mumbai to legendary actor and filmmaker Raj Kapoor and Krishna. Actors Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor are his uncles while Randhir Kapoor and Rajeev Kapoor are his brothers. Rishi Kapoor married fellow co-actor Neetu Singh in 1980 after dating for a couple of years. Rishi and Neetu was a superhit couple during that era and appeared in everal blockbuster movies like ‘Kabhi Kabhi’, ‘Khel Khel Mein’, ‘Rafoo Chakkar’ and ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’. Rishi Kapoor first faced the camera for his father Raj Kapoor’s multiple Filmfare Award winning film ‘Mera Naam Joker’. The film took seven years to complete and did not fare well at the box office. However it was a huge critical success and Rishi won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist. A couple of years later, he played the male lead opposite Dimple Kapadia in ‘Bobby’ that became a box office hit and is still considered as one of the most popular romantic films in the Indian cinema. Rishi Kapoor ventured into direction with romantic drama film ‘Aa Ab Laut Chalen’ starring Rajesh Khanna, Akshaye Khanna, Aishwariya Rai and Suman Ranganathan. The film was a commercial and critical success and did extremely well in the overseas market. Rishi Kapoor has lately appeared in significant supporting roles in Bollywood films like ‘Hum Tum’ alongside Rani Mukherji and Saif Ali Khan, ‘Fanaa’ alongside Aamir Khan and Kajol, ‘Namastey London’ alongside Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, ‘Luck By Chance’ alongside Juhi Chawla, Farhan Akhtar and Konkona Sen Sharma, ‘Delhi 6’ alongside Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ alongside Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Rishi Kapoor won the Apsara Awards: Best Actor in a Supporting Role and Star Screen Award for Best Supporting Actor for ‘Love Aaj Kal’. He has also received the Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement, and - FICCI Living Legend in Entertainment award. He won the MTV Lycra Awards Maha Style Icon and was honored by the Russian Government for his contribution to cinema.
