Samir Soni is an Indian model turned actor who won accolades for his performance as a gay fashion designer in Madhur Bhandarkar’s blockbuster film ‘Fashion’. Samir has appeared in supporting roles in several films and popular television series like ‘Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin’.

Samir Soni was born on September 29, 1968 into a Punjabi family in London. He attended the St. Xavier's School, Delhi and later graduated in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles. Samir Soni worked as an investment Banker for one of the high profile companies at the Wall Street in New York. However he aspired to join the glamour industry and thus returned to India where he started his career as a model. Prior to joining films, Samir attended several acting and film making courses in New York and Los Angeles.
Samir soni was earlier married to Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar whom he met during the shoot of Cadbury’s TV commercial. Rajlaxmi Khanvilkar was a popular model during the nineties who also appeared in music video featured in Shahrukh Khan- Kareena Kapoor starrer ‘Ashoka’. Rajlaxmi and Samir divorced after around six months of their marriage and she later married Aashiqui fame Rahul Roy.
Samir Soni later dated former Miss India Nafisa Joseph for three years. Nafisa was found dead in her Mumbai apartment in the year 2004. She was about to get married to businessman Gautam Khanduja however her marriage was called off due to unknown reasons. It is believed that she could not handle the stress of her personal relationships and committed suicide. Nafisa Joseph was a well known Indian model and a MTV VJ, she was also among the semi finalists at the coveted Miss Universe contest, 1997. Samir Soni was lately seen with actor turned jewelry designer Neelam Kothari, though it has been rumored that the two are not seeing each other anymore. Neelam Kothari is known to have appeared in successful films like ‘Love 86’, ‘Ilzaam’, ‘Khudgarz’, ‘Agneepath’ and ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ among others. It is believed that Neelam was not prepared for the commitment so soon while samir wanted to get married thus leading to a split. Neelam was earlier romantically involved with Govinda and Bobby Deol and later married Rishi Sethia, a London based businessman. Samir Soni started his career as an actor in Mahesh Bhatt’s English TV series titled ‘A Mouthful of Sky’ aired on Doordarshan. The show also starred famed Indian celebrities like Rahul Bose, Milind Soman, Ayesha Dharker and Simone Singh. He was later seen in pivotal role in ‘China Gate’ alongside Mamta Kulkarni, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Danny Denzongpa and Paresh Rawal. Till date, Samir Soni has appeared in several films in a supporting role including ‘Lajja’ alongside Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala and Anil Kapoor, ‘Basti’ alongside Shama Sikander, Govind Namdeo, Sadashiv Amrapurkar and Kulbhushan Kharbanda, ‘Baghban’ alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini and Salman Khan, ‘Vivah - A Journey From Engagement To Marriage’ alongside Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao and Anupam Kher and ‘Fashion’ alongside Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut, Mughda Godse and Arbaaz Khan. Sameer Soni is expected to be seen in a significant role in Karan Johar- UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ starring Imran Khan, Sonam Kapoor and Sameer Dattani. ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ is the directorial debut of Punit Malhotra, ace designer Manish Malhotra’s nephew.
