Shaam

Shaam is a well known Tamil film actor who has also appeared in Kannada, Telugu and Malayalam films. Shaam appeared in a cameo role in ‘Khushi’ starring Fardeen Khan and Kareena Kapoor. He later played lead roles in several hit Tamil films alongside well known actors like Simran Bagga, Jyothika, Sneha, Meera Jasmine, Raghuvaran, Trisha Krishnan, Madhavan, Asin Thottumkal, Nithya Das, Samiksha, Ravi Teja, Ileana D'Cruz, Sandhya, Mallika Kapoor, Jayam Ravi, Tamannaah Bhatia and Prabhu Ganesan. Shaam is best remembered for his role in commercially and critically successful Tamil films like ‘12B’, ‘Iyarkai’, ‘Ullam Ketkumae’ and the Telugu film ‘Kick’.

Shaam was born as Shamshuddin Ibrahim on 4 April 1978 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu into a Muslim family based in Tamil Nadu. Shaam was raised in Bangalore where he graduated in commerce. Shaam has five siblings- two sisters and three brothers. He married his long time girlfriend Kashish and the couple is blessed with a daughter named Samaira.

Shaam began his career as a model and aspired to become an actor. In the meanwhile, he appeared in several TV commercials and print advertisements. After struggling for a while, he was cast in a cameo role in Bollywood film ‘Khushi’ starring Ka reena Kapoor and Fardeen Khan. Later he was launched as a lead hero by famed director Jeeva in ‘12B’. Jeeva made his directorial debut with ‘12B’ and was looking for a new face to play the lead, when he came across Shaam.

Shaam’s first film as a lead role was Jeeva’s ‘12B’ alongside Simran Bagga, Jyothika, Vivek, Moon Moon Sen and Sunil Shetty. Shaam later appeared in pivotal roles in films like ‘Hey! Nee Romba Azhaga Irukke’ alongside Sneha, Vivek, Rajiv Krishna and Raaghav, Deepak’s ‘Bala’ also starring Meera Jasmine, Raghuvaran, Thilakan, Nagesh, Rajan P. Dev and Karunas, Priyadarshan’s ‘Laysa Laysa’ alongside Trisha and Madhavan, S.P.Jananathan’s ‘Iyarkai’, Jeeva’s multistarrer ‘Ullam Ketkumae’ alongside Arya, Laila Mehdin, Asin Thottumkal, Pooja Umashankar and Srinath.

Shaam played the male lead role in Saravana Subbiah’s ‘ABCD’ also starring Sneha, Aparna, Nandana and Azhagam Perumal. He later worked alongside Nithya Das, Samiksha and Jayasurya in the 2006 release ‘Manathodu Mazhaikalam’. Shaam ventured into Kannada films with ‘Thananam Thananam’ and Telugu films with ‘Kick’. His first Telugu film ‘Kick’ was directed by Surender Reddy who has previously directed films like ‘Athanokkade’, ‘Ashok’ and ‘Athidi’. ‘Kick’ starrer Ravi Teja, Ileana D'Cruz, Shaam, Brahmanandam, Kota Srinivasa Rao and Sayaji Shinde. ‘Kick’ became a commercial success and was in fact the only Tollywood blockbuster in the summer of 2009.

Shaam played the male lead opposite Sandhya in the romantic film ‘Thoondil’ directed by Adhiyaman. Shaam was next seen in Vendhan’s ‘Inba’ also starring Sneha, Arun Pandiyan, Aravind Akash and Ganja Karuppu. Shaam starred opposite Sridevika in the 2008 release Tamil film ‘Sivamayam’. Shaam was recently seen in ‘Anthony Yaar?’ opposite Mallika Kapoor. Shaam is currently working on a couple of projects like M Raja’s ‘Thillalangadi’ and ‘Agam Puram’ in Tamil and ‘Koodaram’ in Malayalam.

‘Thillalangadi’ is a remake of the 2009 Telugu film ‘Kick’ directed by Surender Reddy. ‘Thillalangadi’ features an ensemble cast including Jayam Ravi, Tamannaah Bhatia, Shaam, Prabhu Ganesan, Vadivelu, Suhasini Maniratnam and Santhanam.
