Sharman Joshi was born on 17 March, 1979 into a family of performing artists in Gujarat. Sharman’s father Arvind Joshi is an eminent theater personality while many of his other family members are also active in theater. His sister Mansi Joshi known for starring in Television serials like ‘Saaya’ is married to popular actor and TV personality Rohit Roy. Rohit’s brother Ronit Roy is popularly known as the Amitabh Bachchan of Television.
Sharman Joshi is happily married to Prerna Chopra and the couple is blessed with a daughter, Khyana and twin boys, named Rehan and Varryan. Prerna chopra is the daughter of notable actor Prem Chopra.
Sharman Joshi started acting at a very young age when he appeared in several stage productions in Hindi, English and Gujarati. His first bollywood venture ‘Godmother’ was a critically acclaimed film released in 1999. Sharman Joshi played a supporting role alongside veteran actors like Shabana Azmi, Milind Gunaji and Nirmal Pandey. The film won five National Awards and various other Filmfare, IIFA and Zee Cine Awards. Sharman’s first film as a protagonist was N Chandra’s low-budget comedy ‘Style’ released in 2001. Though the film was hugely criticized but it became a surprise hit followed by its sequel ‘Xcuse Me’ that also became a box office success. Sharman Joshi continued the success stride with another multistarrer comedy ‘Shaadi No. 1’ alongside Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Zayed Khan, Soha Ali Khan, Ayesha Takia and Esha Deol. Directed by David Dhawan, ‘Shaadi no. 1’ was reasonably successful at the box office. Sharman’s breakthrough performance was seen in the National award winning film ‘Rang De Basanti’. Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra’s ‘Rang De Basanti’ also starred Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Siddharth, Kunal Kapoor and Soha Ali Khan. Besides being the highest grossing film of the year, it was honored at many international film festivals. ‘Rang De Basanti’ became India’s official entry the Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards. It received the prestigious BAFTA Award for the Best Foreign Language Film. Sharman joshi also played the supporting role alongside Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Kareena Kapoor and Boman Irani in the 2009 blockbuster ‘3 Idiots’. Produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, ‘3 Idiots’ was the most loved film of the year 2009. ‘3 Idiots’ became not only the highest earner in the Indian film industry till date but also received outstanding rating from the critics.
Sharman Joshi has received two Filmfare Award nominations so far, Best Supporting Actor Award for ‘3 Idiots’ and Best Comedian Award for ‘Golmaal’. Sharman was lately seen in TV commercials for the telecom giant Airtel.
