Shiney Ahuja was born on May 15, 1973 in New Delhi and attended the St. Xavier's School, Ranchi and Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi. Shiney’s father was an officer in the Indian Army and he also aspired to serve the Indian army. Shiney developed a keen interest in theatre during his graduation years at the Hansraj College, University of Delhi. Shiney subsequently joined the reputed the Barry Johns Acting School in Delhi.

Shiney Ahuja soon moved to Mumbai to pursue a career in bollywood, he started as a model and also featured in a few TV commercials. Shiney was noticed in Stereo Nation’s music video ‘Pyar Ho Gaya’ and was approached by Sudhir Mishra to play a lead character in ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’. Set in seventies against the backdrop of the Indian Emergency ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ also starred Kay Kay Menon and Chitrangda Singh in pivotal roles. The film was screened at a number of film festivals at different places including Turkey, Estonia, Florence, Berlin, Edinburgh, Washington, Goa, Bradford, Manchester, Los Angeles, Dallas, and California.

‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ failed to do well at the box office owing to its parallel cinema appeal; however it received immense critical appreciation. Shiney Ahuja won accolades for his debut film and received several awards including Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer, Zee Cine Award for Best Male Debut, IIFA Award for Best Debut and Stardust Award for Best debut actor. Shiney Ahuja was next seen in films like ‘Sins’, a controversial film that received an Adults Only rating, ‘Karam’ alongside John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra and ‘Kal: Yesterday and Tomorrow’ opposite Chitranda Singh. Shiney Ahuja’s first commercial success was the Bhatt camp’s ‘Gangster’ alongside Emraan Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut. Directed by Anurag Basu, ‘Gangster’ was based on the love story of a gangster played by Shiney Ahuja. The film became a commercial and critical success and Shiney Ahuja won the Best Actor (Critics Choice) Award at IIFA 2007. He was also honored with the Society Young Achiever's Award for ‘Gangster’. Shiney Ahuja was later seen in another Bhatt production titled ‘Woh Lamhe’ opposite Kangana Ranaut. The film was supposedly based on the life of late actress Parveen Babi, her relationship with Mahesh Bhatt and her struggle with schizophrenia. Shiney Ahuja also appeared in significant roles in films like ‘Zindagi Rocks’ opposite Sushmita Sen, ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ opposite Vidya Balan, ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’ opposite Soha Ali Khan and ‘Life in a Metro’ opposite Shilpa Shetty. Shiney received the prestigious Kalakar Award for Best Actor for his performance in Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Khoya Khoya Chand’ set in 1950s film industry as its backdrop. Shiney Ahuja was detained by the Mumbai Police after his 18-year-old maid accused him of raping her. The actor was immediately taken into custody and the maid was sent for a medical examination that confirmed that Shiney had an intercourse with her. However Shiney confessed that he had sex with the maid’s consent. The film industry and Shiney’s fans were startled by the news but his wife Anupam Ahuja stood by him like a rock. After spending four months in Arthur Road jail, Shiney Ahuja was granted a conditional bail and now he stays in Noida but makes frequent visits to Mumbai. It has been reported that Shiney Ahuja will be seen in a forthcoming horror film titled ‘Shunya’. ‘Shunya’ is directed by Puja Bedi, niece of ‘Bandit Queen’ fame Bobby Bedi. Vaishali Desai who earlier appeared in ‘Kal Kissne Dekha’ backed out from ‘Shunya’ after she learned that Shiney will be playing the male lead.
