Shriya Saran

 
 

Shriya Saran is an Indian tollywood superstar who also appears in Hindi movies. Born on September 11, 1982 to Neeraja Saran, a chemistry teacher and Pushpendra Saran, a Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd employee in Dehradun, Shriya Saran was raised in Ranipur near Haridwar. She attended Delhi Public School and later graduated in English Literature from Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi. Shriya Saran has an elder brother named Abhiroop.

Shriya has worked in successful films in regional languages like Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu besides Hindi. She has also worked in Deepa Mehta’s English film ‘Cooking with Stella’ alongside popular actors like Seema Biswas, Lisa Ray, Don McKellar, Shriya Saran and Vansh Bharadwaj.

Shriya Saran made her debut Reenu Nathan’s music video ‘Tirakthi Kyon Hawa’ on the recommendation of her dance teacher. She marked her cinematic presence in the Telugu film industry with Ramoji Films’ ‘Ishtam’ opposite Charan and later appeared in Dasaradh’s ‘Santosham’ alongside Akkineni Nagarjuna, Prabhu Deva, and Gracy Singh, V.V. Vinayak’s ‘Chennakesva Reddy’ alongside Nandamuri Balakrishna and Tabu, Trivikram Srinivas’s ‘Nuvve Nuvve’ alongside Tarun and Prakash Raj. Since then Shriya has worked in a number of Telugu blockbusters including a cameo appearance in National Film Award winning film ‘Bommalata’.

She made her debut in Tamil film industry with Jyothi Krishna’s ‘Enakku 20 Unakku 18’ alongside Tarun, Trisha, Vivek, and Reema Sen. She was later seen in Tamil films like S.Rajkumar’s ‘Mazhai’ opposite Jayram Ravi, Boopathy Pandian’s ‘Thiruvilayadal Arambam’ opposite Dhanush, Bharathan’s ‘Azhagiya Tamil Magan’ opposite Joseph Vijay. Shriya played the female lead in S. Shankar's ‘Sivaji: The Boss’ opposite veteran actor Rajinikanth. The film was subsequently dubbed in Telugu and Hindi and was released in theatres worldwide including Malaysia, Singapore, Canada, UK, Johannesburg, Durban, Sri Lanka, Persian Gulf, China, Japan, among others. Thw film became a huge success at box offices across the globe. ‘Sivaji: The Boss’won National Film - Silver Lotus Award for Best Art Direction, Filmfare Award in several categories like Best Music Director, Best Cinematography, Best Comedian and Best Villain.

Shriya’s first Malayalam film was Vyshakh Abraham’s ‘Pokkiri Raja’ alongside superstar Mammootty and Prithviraj Sukumaran. She has also appeared in Kannada film ‘Arasu’ alongside Puneeth Rajkumar, Ramya and Meera Jasmine.

Shriya Saran plunged into Bollywood with Ramoji Rao’s ‘Tujhe Meri Kasam’ alongside Genelia D'Souza and Ritesh Deshmukh. Shriya Saran later appeared in Hindi films like Esmayeel Shroff’s ‘Thoda Tum Badlo Thoda Hum’ starring Arya Babbar, Ashok Saraf, Nishigandha Wad and Shoma Anand, Anupam Sinha’s ‘Shukriya: Till Death Do Us Apart’ featuring Anupam Kher, Aftab Shivdasani and Indraneel. Shriya was paired opposite Emran Hashmi in Mohit Suri’s ‘Awarapan’ and Zayed Khan in Apoorva Lakhia’s ‘Mission Istanbul’. Saran then featured in ‘Ek - The Power of One’, the Hindi remake of the Telugu film Athadu with Bobby Deol.

Shriya Saran also acted in Mani Ratnam’s Tamil play ‘Netru, Indru, Naalai’ to raise funds for a voluntary organization The Banyan. She also walked the ramp at the Chennai International Fashion Week for ace designer Neeta Lulla. She has done a couple of brand endorsements including Lux, Head & Shoulders and Taj Mahal Tea. Shriya will soon be seen in films like ‘Komaram Puli ‘,’Chikku Bukku’ , ‘Don Seenu’, ‘ Rowthiram’ , ‘Komagata Maru ‘ and ‘Marmayogi’.
