Siddharth was born on April 17, 1979 in Chennai where he attended DAV Boys' Senior Secondary School, Chennai. Siddharth later studied at the Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, Delhi and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce from Kirori Mal College, New Delhi. Siddharth had a keen interest in extracurricular activities, thus was the president of the Debating society of his college and also did theatre. He represented his college at several World Debating Championships and also became a member of the college theatre group ‘The Players’.

Siddharth earned his MBA degree from the reputed S P Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai in the year 2001. He subsequently received the CNBC Manager of the Year Award. Siddharth married his childhood sweetheart in the year 2002, however differenced cropped up owing to Siddharth’s acting career in tollywood. Siddharth and Meghna divorced in the year 2006 and reportedly Siddharth and Meghna have two children. It was rumored post Rang De Basanti that Siddharth was dating Soha Ali Khan. However the two broke up and Soha is currently dating Kunal Khemu.

Siddharth’s brother, cinematographer PC Sreeram helped him earn the rewarding opportunity of assisting veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam in the Tamil film ‘Kannathil Muthamittal’. However his first film as an actor was ‘Boys’, a Tamil film directed by S Shankar. It was ariter Sujatha Rangarajan who recommended Siddharth for ‘Boys’. The film did reasonable well but its Telugu version did record business and opened a plethora of opportunities for Siddharth in tollywood.
Siddharth next starred alongside Surya, Madhavan, Meera Jasmine, Trisha and Esha Deol in Mani Ratnam’s commercially and critically successful Tamil film ‘Aayutha Ezhuthu’. The film was later remade into Hindi as ‘Yuva’ starring Ajay Devgan, Rani Mukherji, Abhishek Bachchan, Vivek Oberoi, Kareena Kapoor and Esha Deol.
Siddharth’s first Telugu film was Prabhu Deva’s directorial debut ‘Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana’ opposite Trisha Krishanan. The film became a huge success and Siddharth won his first Filmfare Best Actor Award. Siddharth also plunged into writing and playback singing with the 2006 release Telugu film ‘Chukkallo Chandrudu’ directed by Sivakumar. ‘Chukkallo Chandrudu’ starred Siddharth Narayan, Sadha, Saloni Aswani, Charmme Kaur, and Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
Siddharth made his Bollywood debut in the National Film Award winning ‘Rang De Basanti’ alongside Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, Madhavan, Kunal Kapoor and Soha Ali Khan. The film directed by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra became a huge success in Indian as well as overseas market. ‘Rang De Basanti’ became India’s official entry the Golden Globe Awards and the Academy Awards. It received the prestigious BAFTA Award for the Best Foreign Language Film. Siddharth won the Star Screen Best Male Debut Award and was nominated in the Best Male Debut and Best Supporting Actor categories at many award ceremonies.
Siddharth also received another Filmfare Best Actor Nomination for his next Telugu film ‘Bommarillu’ opposite Genelia D’Souza. Siddharth later appeared in Telugu films like ‘Aata’, ‘Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam’, ‘Oy!’ and ‘Baava’. He teamed with acclaimed director Vishal Bhardwaj and Matthew Robbins in a short film titled ‘Blood Brothers’. Based on the sensitive subject of HIV-AIDS, ‘Blood Brothers’ was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Siddharth also starred in Chandan Arora’s Bollywood film ‘Striker’ that became the first film to be released in theatres and You Tube simultaneously.
