Srikanth is a popular Tamil actor, credited as Sriram in the Telugu film industry. kNown for an award winning performance in Karu Pazhaniappan’s ‘Parthiban Kanavu’. Srikanth is undoubtedly one of the most promising stars of the present South Indian Film industry. Though Srikanth predominantly appears in Tamil movies, he has starred in a couple of superhit Telugu films like ‘Okariki Okaru’ and ‘Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule’.
Born on February 28, 1979 in Chennai, Srikanth is the grandson of late Mandayam Osuri Parthasarathy Iyengar, a prominent Indian botanist and phycologist also known as the Father of Algology in India. Srikanth is married to Vandana and they are bleassed with a baby boy. Vandana originally hails from Puducherry and is an MBA from Australia.
Srikanth made his debut in the year 2002 with Sasi’s Tamil film ‘Roja Kootam’ alongside Bhumika Chawla, Vivek, Raadhika and Raghuvaran. Srikanth’s performance was well received and he won the ITFA Best New Actor Award. Srikanth next appeared in S.S. Stanley’s ‘April Maadhathil’ opposite Sneha and Santhosh’s ‘Manasellam’ opposite Trisha Krishnan.
Srikanth won rave reviews for his performance in ‘Parthiban Kanavu’ written and directed by Karu Pazhaniappan. The film starred Sneha in double role while Manivannan and Vivek played pivotal roles. The film became a surprise hit and sRikanth received the coveted Tamil Nadu State Film Special Award for Best Actor.
Srikanth consequently starred in Azhagam Perumal’s ‘Joot’ opposite Meera Jasmine, Nagulan Ponnusamy’s ‘Varnajaalam’ opposite Sadha, Senthil Kumar’s ‘Bose’ opposite Sneha, Fazil’s ‘Oru Naal Oru Kanavu’ opposite Sonia Agarwal, Parthy Baskar’s ‘Bambara Kannaley’ opposite Arthi Agarwal, Stanley’s ‘Mercury Pookkal’ opposite Meera Jasmine, S.S. Stanley’s ‘Kizhakku Kadalkarai Salai’ opposite Bhavana and K. Rajeswar’s ‘Indira Vizha’ alongside Sruthi Prakash, Namitha, Rahasya and Nassar. ‘Indira Vizha’ was inspired from Abbas-Mustan’s Bollywood hit ‘Aitraaz’ starring Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Amrish Puri.
Srikanth ventured into Telugu films in the year 2003 with Director-turned-Cinematographer Rasool Ellore’s ‘Okariki Okaru’ opposite Aarti Chhabria. ‘Okariki Okaru’ was a commercial as well as critical success. Srikanth later starred in a significant role in Selvaraghavan’s directorial debut ‘Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule’ alongside Venkatesh, Trisha Krishnan, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Meghna Naidu and Suman Setty. The film completed a fifty day run in 200 centres and had a successful hundred day run in over twenty-one centres. The film also bagged several awards at the Filmfare Awards, nandi Awards, Santhosham Awards and CineMAA Awards. It was later remade into Tamil as ‘Yaaradi Nee Mohini’ starring Dhanush and Nayantara as the lead pair.
Srikanth played the protagonist in Madhumitha’s mega hit ‘Vallamai Tharayo’ opposite Chaya Singh, the film was supposed to feature Madhavan and Navya Nair in the lead but both of them opted out.
Srikanth’s next film ‘Poo’ received three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards including Best Film- 3rd Prize, Best Film Portraying Woman in Good Light and Best Storywriter. Directed by Sasi, ‘Poo’ starred Parvathi Menon as the female lead. ‘Poo’ also won the Best Film award by Makkal TV, Best Film Award by Jaya TV, Best Film at Kalaignar TV Popular Awards and Best Film Award at the at the Ahmadabad Film Festival.
Srikanth was recently seen in R. K. Vidhyadaran’s Tamil thriller ‘Rasikkum Seemane’ alongside Navya Nair and Aravind Akash and Manmohan’s Telugu cop film ‘Police Police’ alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kamalini Mukherjee and Sanjana. His forthcoming films include Sudha Kongara’s ‘Drohi’ alongside Vishnu, Poorna, Poonam Bajwa and Pooja Umashanker and ‘Sadhurangam’.
