Sunil Shetty is a well known bollywood actor, producer and television presenter. Born on 11th August 1961 in Mulki, near Mangalore, Sunil Shetty is popularly known as Anna among friends and fans. A black belt in Full Contact Kick Boxing, Sunil Shetty specializes in action sequences and comic genre. Sunil has recently changed his name to Suniel owing to some numerological beliefs. Married to Mana Shetty, Sunil is a father of two children, Ahan and Athiya. Besides acting, Sunil Shetty owns a production company named Popcorn Entertainment Ltd that also organizes and promotes world tours and concerts featuring Bollywood actors and performers. Sunil also owns a hotel chain specializing in Udupi cuisine and has recently launched his own clothing line named Mischief. Sunil Shetty has also hosted the reality show Biggest Loser Jeetega that was telecasted on Sahara One.

Sunil Shetty made his bollywood debut in ‘Balwaan’ released in 1992. Directed by Deepak Anand, the movie could not do well at the box office. Sunil Shetty’s first commercial success was action thriller ‘Mohra’. Released in 1994, Rajiv Rai’s ‘Mohra’ also starred Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon. Later that year Sunil Shetty appeared in two mega hit films of the year- ‘Dilwale’ and ‘Gopi Kishan’. Both the movies belonged to different in genres, while ‘Dilwale’ was an intense romantic drama; ‘Gopi Kishan’ was an out-and-out comedy. After appearing in a few action films during 90s, Sunil Shetty received critical acclaim for his exemplary performance in J.P. Dutta’s ‘Border’. After the mega success of ‘Border’, Sunil Shetty continued to work in patriotic roles like ‘Refuge’, ‘Qayamat: City Under Threat’ and ‘LOC: Kargil’.Sunil Shetty plunged into comedy with Priyadarshan’s ‘Hera Pheri’ alongside Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal. The movie became a superhit and its sequels, ‘Phir Hera Pheri’ and ‘De Dana Dan’ also did huge business at the box office.
Sunil Shetty’s phenomenal performance in ‘Dhadkan’ won him his first Filmfare Award for an Actor in a Negative Role in 2001. Dharmesh Darshan’s ‘Dhadkan’ also featuring Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty became the highest grossing movie of the year. Sunil Shetty’s production company Popcorn Motion Pictures Ltd has produced films like ‘Khel’ , ‘Rakht: What If You Can See the Future’and ‘Bhagam Bhag’.In 2007, Sunil Shetty starred in an English film ‘Don't Stop Dreaming’ and a Tamil film ‘12B’. Till date, Sunil Shetty has been nominated for four Filmfare Awards including Best Villain Award for ‘Main Hoon Na’, Best Supporting Actor for ‘Refugee’, Best Supporting Actor for ‘Border’ and Best Supporting Actor for ‘Dilwale’.
Sunil Shetty was honoured with the Best Actor for ‘Red Alert: The War Within’ at the South Asia International Film Festival, 2009. Produced by Rahul Aggrawal and directed by Anant Mahadevan, ‘Red Alert: The War Within’ is based on the true story of a farmer who joins the naxalites. The film has been screened at a number of film festivals- both national and international and is getting rave reviews. Sunil Shetty’s forthcoming films include Anees Bazmee’s ‘No Problem’ alongside Anil Kapoor, UTV Motion Pictures’ ‘Thank You’ with an ensemble cast and ‘Hera Pheri 4’ directed by Anees Bazmee.
